Provinz Uva

Die Provinz Uva besteht aus zwei Bezirken: Badulla und Moneragala, während die Hauptstadt der Provinz Badulla ist. Uva grenzt an die östliche, Südliche und Zentralprovinzen. Uvas symbolischer Berg ist Namunukula, der der höchste Berg der Bergkette rund um die Stadt Badulla ist. Vom Gipfel des Namunukula kann man an klaren Tagen spektakuläre Ausblicke auf das Welimada-Becken, Kataragama und den Strand von Hambantota genießen. Die Sonnenauf- und -untergänge sind ebenfalls großartig.

In der Provinz Uva befinden sich einige der berühmtesten Wasserfälle Sri Lankas, wie Dunhinda Falls, Diyaluma Falls, Rawana Falls, Bambarakanda Falls sowie Nationalparks wie der 9 Yala (teilweise in den Süd- und Ostprovinzen) und Gal Oya (teilweise in der Ostprovinz). Die Gal Oya-Hügel und die zentralen Berge bilden die Haupt-Hochländer, während der Mahaweli- und Menik-Fluss sowie die Stauseen Senanayake und Maduru Oya die wichtigsten Wasserstraßen darstellen. Die wichtigsten Kulturerbestätten in und um Badulla sind der alte Muthiyangana-Tempel, Dowa-Tempel, die alte hölzerne Brücke Bogoda und der Bogoda-Buddhistentempel. Der Muthiyangana-Tempel befindet sich am einen Ende der Stadt Badulla, die Bogoda-Holzbrücke und der Tempel liegen in der Nähe von Hali-ela. Der alte Rawana-Buddhistentempel ist ebenfalls bei Touristen beliebt, die die Rawana-Höhle und den Rawana-Wasserfall in Ella besuchen.

Haputale ist eine Kleinstadt im Bezirk Badulla und ihr höchster Berg ist Kirigalpotta. Die Haputale-Beragala-Schlucht bietet an klaren Tagen einen herrlichen Blick auf die Süd- und Sabaragamuwa-Provinzen. Die Höhe beträgt 1431 m (4695 ft) über dem Meeresspiegel. Die Region hat eine reiche Biodiversität mit einer Vielzahl von Pflanzen und Tieren. Aufgrund ihrer Höhe hat die Stadt ein kühleres Klima als die Umgebung. Der Haputale-Pass ermöglicht Ausblicke über die südlichen Ebenen Sri Lankas. Die südwestliche Grenze des Uva-Beckens wird durch die Haputale-Bergketten markiert, die sich bis zu den Horton Plains und Adams Peak im Westen fortsetzen.   • The Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of three districts: Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Farming and fishing are the main sources of income for the vast majority of the people in this region.

  • The Uva Province consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala while the capital of the province is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern and Central provinces.

  • The Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.
