Inmitten der majestätischen Berge von Kalupahana im zentralen Hochland stürzt der wunderschöne Schachtelhalm- Wasserfall Bambarakanda Ella herab. Der Schachtelhalm-Wasserfall stürzt eine fast senkrechte Felswand hinab und bleibt dabei teilweise mit dieser in Kontakt. Als höchster Wasserfall der Insel hat Bambarakanda eine vertikale Höhe von 263 m (863 Fuß) und liegt auf Platz 299 der höchsten Wasserfälle der Welt. Bambarakanda liegt an den steilen, pinienbewaldeten Hängen des Distrikts Badulla , nur 5 m von der Autobahn A4 entfernt; er entspringt dem Kuda Oya, einem Nebenfluss des Walawe-Flusses . Die Gegend ist ein großartiger Ort zum Fotografieren und Picknicken. Am Fuße des Wasserfalls gibt es einen natürlichen Poolkomplex, in dem Sie vor dem Essen auch baden können, wenn Sie sich für ein Picknick entscheiden.

Bambarakanda bietet interessierten Wanderern einen Weg zum Gipfel der Wasserfälle. Auf dem Gipfel befinden sich ein wunderschöner Miniaturwasserfall und ein großes Becken, das den Hauptwasserfall speist. Der freie Blick auf die östlichen Ebenen bietet außerdem wunderbare Fotomotive. Die beste Reisezeit für Bambarakanda Ella ist zwischen März und Mai , da das Wasser dann am stärksten fließt. Von Juni bis September herrscht in der Region Trockenzeit, und die Wasserfälle erhalten deutlich weniger Wasser. In den Monaten November bis Februar regnet es häufig stark, sodass es schwierig ist, nahe genug heranzukommen, um die Wasserfälle zu betrachten.

Zu beachtende Dinge:

  • Nehmen Sie unbedingt eine Wasserflasche mit, da ein Teil des Weges trocken ist.
  • Tragen Sie gute Wanderschuhe, da der Weg rutschig ist.
  • Nehmen Sie Salz gegen Blutegel und Insektenschutzmittel mit.

0 – 900 m (Wegpunkt BF01 – BF11): Biegen Sie nach 650 m rechts die Hauptstraße entlang auf den Fußweg ab, der zum Fuß des Wasserfalls führt. Biegen Sie nach 150 m erneut rechts ab, um auf einen anderen Fußweg zu gelangen, der von der Hauptstraße kommt. Überqueren Sie eine Brücke, bevor ein leichter Anstieg durch ein Kiefernwäldchen beginnt. Biegen Sie nach 50 m rechts in das Kiefernwäldchen ab, um zum Fuß des Wasserfalls zu gelangen.

900 m – 1300 m (Wegpunkt BF12 – BF16): Dieser Abschnitt ist ein etwas intensiver Anstieg mit Haarnadelkurven durch den Kiefernwald, bis der Rand des Waldgebiets erreicht ist. Von diesem Punkt aus hat man eine gute Aussicht auf die Horton Plains und die darunter liegenden Straßen.

1300 m bis 1600 m (Wegpunkt BF17 – BF24): Biegen Sie rechts auf einen Pfad ab, der mit einem steilen Anstieg rechts wieder in den Wald führt, und wandern Sie die letzten 300 m. Dieser Abschnitt des Pfades ist ziemlich rutschig, seien Sie also vorsichtig. Der Pfad führt direkt zum Rand der Klippe mit Zugang zu einem Felsvorsprung an der Seite der Wasserfälle, der eine 360°-Aussicht bietet. Um jedoch den eigentlichen Gipfel des Bambarakanda zu erreichen, folgen Sie dem Pfad weitere 100 m, bis Sie den kleineren Wasserfall darüber und das Becken erreichen, das den Bambarakanda speist. Hier gibt es einen steilen und rutschigen 50-m-Abstieg, den Sie nehmen können, um zum Rand des Beckens zu gelangen. Dies ist der Gipfel der Bambarakanda-Wasserfälle .
