مقاطعة مولايتيفو
تُعد منطقة موللايتيفو واحدة من المناطق الخمس والعشرين في سريلانكا، وهي تمثل المستوى الإداري الثاني في البلاد. تُدار المنطقة من قبل أمانة المنطقة برئاسة سكرتير المنطقة (وكان يُعرف سابقًا بالوكيل الحكومي) الذي تعينه الحكومة المركزية في سريلانكا. عاصمة المنطقة هي مدينة موللايتيفو.
كانت أجزاء من منطقة موللايتيفو الحالية جزءًا من مملكة جافنا في فترة ما قبل الاستعمار. ثم خضعت المنطقة لاحقًا للسيطرة البرتغالية والهولندية والبريطانية. وفي عام 1815، سيطر البريطانيون على جزيرة سيلان بأكملها، وقسموها إلى ثلاث إدارات عرقية: السنهاليون في الأراضي المنخفضة، والسنهاليون في كاندي، والتاميل. وكانت المنطقة، التي كانت آنذاك جزءًا من منطقة فاني، خاضعة للإدارة التاميلية. وفي عام 1833، ووفقًا لتوصيات لجنة كولبروك–كاميرون، تم توحيد الإدارات العرقية في إدارة واحدة قُسمت إلى خمس مقاطعات جغرافية. وشكّلت منطقة فاني، إلى جانب منطقة جافنا ومنطقة مانار، المقاطعة الشمالية الجديدة.
تمت إعادة تسمية منطقة فاني لاحقًا إلى منطقة موللايتيفو ثم إلى منطقة فافونيا. وقد تم استعمار المنطقة في النصف الثاني من القرن الثامن عشر من قبل سكان من شبه جزيرة جافنا، لا سيما من مناطق ألاڤيدي، وأودوبيدي، ونافالي. وعند حصول سيلان على الاستقلال، كانت فافونيا واحدة من ثلاث مناطق تقع ضمن المقاطعة الشمالية. وتم اقتطاع منطقة موللايتيفو من الجزء الشمالي من منطقة فافونيا، إلى جانب أجزاء من منطقة جافنا ومنطقة مانار ومنطقة ترينكومالي، وذلك في سبتمبر 1978.
خضعت منطقة موللايتيفو لسيطرة متمردي نمور تحرير تاميل إيلام لسنوات عديدة خلال الحرب الأهلية. وتمت استعادة السيطرة على المنطقة من قبل الجيش السريلانكي في أوائل عام 2009.
تقع منطقة موللايتيفو في شمال شرق سريلانكا ضمن المقاطعة الشمالية. وتبلغ مساحتها 2,617 كيلومترًا مربعًا (1,010 أميال مربعة).
تنقسم منطقة موللايتيفو إلى ستة أقسام أمانة إدارية (DS Divisions)، يرأس كل منها سكرتير إداري (وكان يُعرف سابقًا بالوكيل الحكومي المساعد). وتنقسم هذه الأقسام بدورها إلى 136 قسم غراما نيلادهاري (GN Divisions).
