물라이티부 지구
물라이티부 지구는 스리랑카의 25개 행정 지구 중 하나로, 국가 행정 체계의 두 번째 단계에 해당합니다. 이 지구는 스리랑카 중앙 정부가 임명한 지구 서기(과거에는 정부 대리인으로 불림)가 이끄는 지구 사무국에 의해 관리됩니다. 지구의 수도는 물라이티부 타운입니다.
현재의 물라이티부 지구 일부 지역은 식민지 이전 시대에 자프나 왕국의 일부였습니다. 이후 이 지구는 포르투갈, 네덜란드, 영국의 지배를 차례로 받았습니다. 1815년 영국은 실론 섬 전체를 장악하고, 저지대 신할라인, 캔디 신할라인, 타밀족이라는 세 개의 민족 기반 행정 구조로 나누었습니다. 당시 반니 지구의 일부였던 이 지역은 타밀 행정 체계에 속해 있었습니다. 1833년 콜브룩–캐머런 위원회의 권고에 따라 민족 기반 행정 구조는 통합되어 다섯 개의 지리적 주로 구성된 단일 행정 체계가 수립되었습니다. 반니 지구는 자프나 지구 및 만나르 지구와 함께 새로운 북부 주를 형성하였습니다.
반니 지구는 이후 물라이티부 지구로, 다시 바부니야 지구로 개칭되었습니다. 이 지구는 18세기 후반 자프나 반도에서 이주한 주민들에 의해 개척되었으며, 주로 알라베디, 우두피디, 나발리 지역 출신들이었습니다. 실론이 독립을 획득했을 당시 바부니야는 북부 주에 속한 세 개의 지구 중 하나였습니다. 물라이티부 지구는 1978년 9월, 바부니야 지구 북부와 당시의 자프나 지구, 만나르 지구, 트린코말리 지구 일부를 합쳐 신설되었습니다.
내전 기간 동안 물라이티부 지구는 오랜 기간 타밀 일람 해방 호랑이(LTTE) 반군 세력의 통제 하에 있었습니다. 이 지구는 2009년 초 스리랑카 군에 의해 탈환되었습니다.
물라이티부 지구는 스리랑카 북동부 북부 주에 위치해 있으며, 면적은 2,617제곱킬로미터(1,010제곱마일)입니다.
물라이티부 지구는 6개의 디비저널 서크리터리 구역(DS Divisions)으로 나뉘며, 각 구역은 디비저널 서기(과거에는 보조 정부 대리인으로 불림)가 관리합니다. 이들 구역은 다시 136개의 그라마 닐라다리 구역(GN Divisions)으로 세분화됩니다.
