Mullaitivu-distriktet
Mullaitivu District er et af de 25 distrikter i Sri Lanka og udgør landets næstøverste administrative niveau. Distriktet administreres af et distriktssekretariat ledet af en distriktssekretær (tidligere kendt som en regeringsagent), som udpeges af Sri Lankas centralregering. Distriktets hovedstad er byen Mullaitivu.
Dele af det nuværende Mullaitivu District var en del af det førkoloniale kongerige Jaffna. Distriktet kom senere under portugisisk, hollandsk og britisk kontrol. I 1815 overtog briterne kontrollen over hele øen Ceylon og opdelte den i tre etnisk baserede administrative strukturer: lavlandssingalesere, kandyan-singalesere og tamiler. Distriktet, som dengang var en del af Vanni District, hørte under den tamilske administration. I 1833 blev de etnisk baserede administrative strukturer, i overensstemmelse med anbefalingerne fra Colebrooke–Cameron-kommissionen, samlet i én administration opdelt i fem geografiske provinser. Vanni District dannede sammen med Jaffna District og Mannar District den nye Northern Province.
Vanni District blev senere omdøbt til Mullaitivu District og derefter til Vavuniya District. Distriktet blev koloniseret i anden halvdel af det 18. århundrede af beboere fra Jaffna-halvøen, primært fra Alaveddy, Udupiddy og Navaly. På tidspunktet hvor Ceylon opnåede uafhængighed, var Vavuniya et af de tre distrikter i Northern Province. Mullaitivu District blev udskilt fra den nordlige del af Vavuniya District sammen med dele af det daværende Jaffna District, Mannar District og Trincomalee District i september 1978.
Mullaitivu District var i mange år under kontrol af oprørsgruppen Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam under borgerkrigen. Distriktet blev generobret af det srilankanske militær i begyndelsen af 2009.
Mullaitivu District ligger i det nordøstlige Sri Lanka i Northern Province og har et areal på 2.617 kvadratkilometer (1.010 kvadratmil).
Mullaitivu District er opdelt i seks divisionssekretariater (DS Divisions), som hver ledes af en divisionssekretær (tidligere kendt som assisterende regeringsagent). Disse divisioner er yderligere opdelt i 136 Grama Niladhari-divisioner (GN Divisions).
