Trincomalee-distriktet
Trincomalee-distriktet er en af de 25 distrikter i Sri Lanka, den sekundære administrative enhed i landet. Distriktet administreres af et distriktssekretariat, der ledes af en distriktssekretær (tidligere kendt som en regeringsagent), udnævnt af den centrale regering i Sri Lanka. Hovedstaden i distriktet er byen Trincomalee.
Befolkningen i distriktet, ligesom resten af øst- og nordområderne, har været stærkt påvirket af borgerkrigen. Krigen dræbte et skønnet 100.000 mennesker. Flere hundrede tusinde srilankanske tamiler, muligvis så mange som en million, emigrerede til Vesten under krigen. Mange srilankanske tamiler flygtede også til den relative sikkerhed i hovedstaden Colombo. Krigen forårsagede også, at mange mennesker fra alle etniske og religiøse grupper, der boede i distriktet, flygtede til andre dele af Sri Lanka, selvom de fleste af dem er vendt tilbage til distriktet siden borgerkrigens afslutning.
Den registrerede historie om Trincomalee går mere end to og et halvt tusinde år tilbage, begyndende med civilbosættelse forbundet med Koneswaram-templet i den præ-moderne æra. En af de ældste byer i Asien, den har fungeret som en vigtig maritim havn i øens internationale handels historie med Sydøstasien.
