Okres Mullaitivu
Okres Mullaitivu District je jedním z 25 okresů Srí Lanky a představuje druhou úroveň administrativního členění země. Okres je spravován okresním sekretariátem v čele s okresním tajemníkem (dříve známým jako vládní agent), který je jmenován ústřední vládou Srí Lanky. Hlavním městem okresu je město Mullaitivu.
Části dnešního okresu Mullaitivu District byly součástí předkoloniálního království Jaffna. Okres se následně dostal pod portugalskou, nizozemskou a britskou nadvládu. V roce 1815 získali Britové kontrolu nad celým ostrovem Cejlon. Ostrov rozdělili do tří etnicky založených správních celků: nížinní Sinhálci, kandyanští Sinhálci a Tamilové. Okres, který byl tehdy součástí Vanni District, spadal pod tamilskou správu. V roce 1833 byly na základě doporučení Colebrook-Cameronovy komise etnicky založené správní struktury sjednoceny do jediné správy rozdělené do pěti geografických provincií. Vanni District spolu s okresem Jaffna a okresem Mannar vytvořila novou Northern Province.
Vanni District byla později přejmenována na Mullaitivu District a poté na okres Vavuniya. Okres byl ve druhé polovině 18. století osídlen obyvateli z poloostrova Jaffna, především z oblastí Alaveddy, Udupiddy a Navaly. V době, kdy Cejlon získal nezávislost, byla Vavuniya jedním ze tří okresů nacházejících se v Northern Province. Mullaitivu District byl vyčleněn ze severní části okresu Vavuniya spolu s částmi tehdejšího okresu Jaffna, okresu Mannar a okresu Trincomalee v září 1978.
Okres Mullaitivu District byl během občanské války po mnoho let pod kontrolou povstaleckého hnutí Osvobozenecké tygry tamilského Ílamu. Okres byl znovu dobyt srílanskou armádou na začátku roku 2009.
Okres Mullaitivu District se nachází na severovýchodě Srí Lanky v Northern Province. Má rozlohu 2 617 kilometrů čtverečních (1 010 čtverečních mil).
Okres Mullaitivu District je rozdělen do šesti správních divizí sekretariátu (DS Divisions), z nichž každou vede divizní tajemník (dříve známý jako asistent vládního agenta). Tyto divize jsou dále rozděleny do 136 jednotek Grama Niladhari (GN Divisions).
