Okres Jaffna
Okres Jaffna je jedním z 25 okresů Srí Lanky, což je druhá úroveň správního dělení země. Okres je spravován Okresním sekretariátem, který vede Okresní sekretář (dříve známý jako vládní agent), který je jmenován centrální vládou Srí Lanky. Hlavní město okresu je město Jaffna.
Mezi 5. stoletím př. n. l. a 13. stoletím n. l. byla dnešní Jaffna součástí různých království, jako jsou Pandya, Chola, Pallava, Kalinga, Rajarata. Jaffna byla poté součástí předkoloniálního království Jaffna. Okres následně přešel pod portugalskou, nizozemskou a britskou kontrolu. V roce 1815 Britové získali kontrolu nad celým ostrovem Cejlon. Rozdělili ostrov do tří etnických správních struktur: Sinhalci nížinní, Sinhalci Kandyánští a Tamilové. Okres Jaffna byl součástí tamilské správy. V roce 1833, v souladu s doporučeními Colebrooke-Cameronovy komise, byly etnické správní struktury sloučeny do jedné správy rozdělené na pět geografických provincií. Okres Jaffna, spolu s okresem Mannar a Vanni, vytvořil novou Severní provincii. Když Cejlon získal nezávislost, Jaffna byla jedním ze tří okresů v Severní provincii. Některé části okresu byly převedeny do nově vytvořeného okresu Mullaitivu v září 1978. Okres Kilinochchi byl vyčleněn z jižní části okresu Jaffna v únoru 1984.
Okres Jaffna se nachází na dalekém severu Srí Lanky v Severní provincii a zabírá většinu Jaffna poloostrova. Má rozlohu 1 025 čtverečních kilometrů (396 čtverečních mil). Geograficky je rozdělen do čtyř oblastí:
