Prowincja Centralna
Prowincja Centralna znajduje się w środkowych wzgórzach Sri Lanki i obejmuje trzy okręgi administracyjne: Kandy, Matale oraz Nuwara Eliya. Powierzchnia prowincji wynosi 5 575 km², co stanowi 8,6% całkowitej powierzchni lądowej Sri Lanki. Prowincja leży między 6,6° a 7,7° szerokości geograficznej północnej oraz 80,5° a 80,9° długości geograficznej wschodniej. Wysokość terenu w prowincji waha się od 600 stóp do ponad 6 000 stóp nad poziomem morza. Od północy graniczy ona z Prowincją Północno-Centralną, od wschodu z rzeką Mahaweli, od południa z Uma Oya oraz pasmami górskimi Adam’s Peak, Kirigalpotta i Thotapala, a od zachodu z pasmami górskimi Dolosbage i Galagedera.
Kandy jest drugim co do wielkości miastem na Sri Lance oraz głównym miastem Prowincji Centralnej, a także okręgu Kandy. To starożytne miasto leży na wysokości 465 metrów (1 526 stóp) nad poziomem morza. Kandy było ostatnią stolicą starożytnego królestwa Sri Lanki i jest jednym z najświętszych miast kraju dzięki Świątyni Świętego Relikwii Zęba Buddy. Jest to również jedno z najpiękniejszych miast na wyspie. Otoczone bujnymi górami, jezioro oraz sąsiadująca Świątynia Świętego Zęba dodatkowo podkreślają urok miasta.
Na północnym brzegu jeziora, otoczonego balustradą z białego kamienia pochodzącą z początku XIX wieku, znajdują się oficjalne religijne zabytki miasta, w tym Świątynia Zęba, znana jako Dalada Maligawa, oraz Pałac Królewski. Odbudowana w XVIII wieku Dalada Maligawa została wzniesiona na granitowej podstawie i inspirowana jest świątyniami dawnej stolicy Sri Lanki, Anuradhapury. Różnorodne materiały przyczyniają się do bogactwa tej świątyni. W całym tym niewielkim świętym mieście można znaleźć liczne buddyjskie klasztory. Kandy położone jest w górzystym i gęsto zalesionym wnętrzu wyspy, otoczone wieloma pasmami górskimi, w tym pasmami Knuckles i Hantana, co nadaje miastu wysokość około 500 metrów nad poziomem morza. Miasto leży obok sztucznego jeziora Kandy oraz na południe od Rezerwatu Udawattakele.
Nuwara Eliya, której nazwa oznacza „miasto światła”, jest miastem położonym w centralnych wyżynach Sri Lanki, charakteryzującym się malowniczym krajobrazem i umiarkowanym klimatem. Nuwara Eliya, główne miasto okręgu Nuwara Eliya, znajduje się na wysokości 1 868 m (6 128 stóp) i jest uznawane za najważniejsze miejsce produkcji herbaty na Sri Lance. Miasto położone jest z widokiem na Pidurutalagalę, najwyższą górę Sri Lanki. Ze względu na dużą wysokość Nuwara Eliya ma znacznie chłodniejszy klimat niż niziny, ze średnią roczną temperaturą 16°C. Temperatura może jednak czasami spaść nawet do 3°C. W grudniu, styczniu i lutym noce są dość zimne i może występować nawet szron, jednak wraz ze wschodem tropikalnego słońca szybko robi się cieplej.

Central ProvinceThe Central Province is located in the central hills of Sri Lanka comprising of three administrative districts: Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya. The land area of the province is 5,575 km2 which is 8.6% of the total land area of Sri Lanka.

Southern ProvinceThe Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of three districts: Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Farming and fishing are the main sources of income for the vast majority of the people in this region.

Uva ProvinceThe Uva Province consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala while the capital of the province is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern and Central provinces.

Sabaragamuwa ProvinceSabaragamuwa is yet another province of Sri Lanka, located in the south-central region of the island and is comprised of two administrative districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle.

North Western ProvinceNorth Western Province is comprised of two administrative districts viz. Kurunegala and Puttalam. The provincial capital is Kurunegala that has a population of 28,571. The province is well known for its coconut plantations.

Northern ProvinceThe Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.

Eastern ProvinceAnother province of Sri Lanka mostly known for its golden beaches and the natural harbour, the Eastern Province which is 9,996 km2 in extent consists of three administrative districts namely Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
