Muntingia calabura - Evergreen small trees or large shrubs, 3.5-8 m tall; branchlets densely villous. Leaves 5-10 x 1.5-4 cm, hairy above, wooly pubescent beneath; petioles 5-6 mm long. Inflorescences sessile. Flowers 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter, white; pedicels 2-2.5 cm long. Fruit a berry, subglobose, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, red or yellow, with stigmas at top and withered stamens at base, pulp juicy, sweet. Seeds numerous, minute.
