Caesalpinia sappan - Small trees or shrubs, to about 10 m high. Leaves bipinnate; pinnae 9 – 14 pairs, each pinna with 10 – 20 pairs of leaflets; leaflets asymmetrically oblong with excentric costa, 1 – 2.5 X (3 -) 5 – 8 (- 11) mm, obtuse at apex and base, glabrous or nearly so on both surfaces. Inflorescence racemose, supra-axillary and terminal, many-flowered, flowers yellow. Fruit dehiscent, black at matuarity, 2 – 4 seeded. Seeds brown to black, oblong to ellipsoid.
