Amaranthus tricolor - Annual herb, up to 1.25 m tall; stems stout, sometimes reddish, angular, glabrous. Leaf axils without paired spines. Leaves glabrous; petioles up to 8 cm; lamina 1.5-12 x 0.8-6 cm. Flowers unisexual, green, in cymose clusters; clusters about 4-25 mm in diameter; perianth segments 3, 3-5 mm long. Capsule ovoid-urceolate, 2.25-2.75 mm. Seed black or brown, shining 1-1.5 mm.
