Rivers
The rich network of rivers in Sri Lanka make the island an oasis at any time of year, naturally watering the paradise garden with its splendid heritage. The highest concentration of rivers and lakes is found in the south-west of the country, making it possibly the most fertile area in Sri Lanka.

스리랑카의 강들은 중앙 고원에서 발원합니다. 그곳에서 강은 평야로 내려와 바다로 흘러듭니다. 강은 일반적으로 상류 지역에서 빠르고 거칠게 흐르며 심하게 침식된 지형을 지나 평야로 내려갑니다. 많은 강들은 급경사를 따라 흐르며, 그 과정에서 장관을 이루는 폭포들을 형성합니다. 하류 지역에서는 강이 서서히 굽이치며 홍수 평야와 삼각주를 통과합니다.
스리랑카에서 가장 긴 강은 마하웰리(Mahaweli) 강으로, 약 330km(약 205마일)의 길이를 자랑합니다. 이 강은 중앙 고원을 가로질러 북동쪽으로 흐르며, 트린코말리 근처의 동해안에 있는 벵골만으로 흘러들어갑니다. 두 번째로 긴 강은 아라비 아루(Aravi Aru) 강으로, 약 220km(약 135마일)의 길이를 가지며 중앙 고원에서 북서쪽으로 흐른 후 마나르 만으로 흘러들어갑니다.
