갈레 지구
갈레는 남부 지방에 위치한 스리랑카의 지역입니다. 이는 스리랑카의 25개 구역 중 하나로, 국가의 두 번째 수준 행정 구분입니다. 이 지역은 스리랑카 중앙 정부에서 임명한 구청장이 이끄는 구청 사무국에 의해 관리됩니다.
그 면적은 1,652 km² (638 제곱마일)이며, 35 km² (14 제곱마일)는 물이고, 1,617 km² (624 제곱마일)는 육지입니다. 갈레 지역은 북쪽으로 벤타라 강, 남쪽과 서쪽으로 인도양, 동쪽으로는 마타라와 랏나푸라 지역과 경계를 이룹니다. 갈레 지역의 지형은 매우 다양합니다. 히니다마 파투와의 기후는 스리랑카의 중앙 산악 지역과 매우 유사합니다. 이 지역은 대부분의 강과 호수의 물이 흐르는 물의 집합지인 열대 우림으로 구성되어 있습니다. 신하라자 숲 보호구역도 그 중 하나입니다. 갈레 지역은 온대 기후대에 위치해 있습니다.
연간 강수량은 2,000–2,500mm 사이입니다. 진 강("진 강가")은 히니다마 파투와의 공갈라 언덕에서 시작하여 113km (70마일)의 긴 여정을 거칩니다. 이 강은 넬루와, 타왈라마, 나고다 바데가마, 탈리카다 지역을 지나며, 그 지역의 922 km² (356 제곱마일) 면적을 비옥하게 만듭니다. 이 강은 갈레 지역의 긴토타 지역에서 인도양으로 흐릅니다. 마두 강가 강은 폴라투 칸다에서 시작해 발라피티야를 거쳐 바다로 흐르며, 갈레 지역에서 생태적 균형을 유지하는 데 도움을 줍니다.
고대 스리랑카에서 갈레 지역은 남부 지방의 수도로서 적들과의 전투에서 중요한 역할을 했습니다. 고대 전설에 따르면, 1072년, 비자야바후 1세는 히니다마 파투와의 탐발라가무와에서 "솔리"와의 전투를 시작했다고 전해집니다. 전설에 따르면, 담바데니야 파라크라마바후 왕의 통치 하에서 그는 갈레 지역에서 수갈라 여왕과의 전투를 벌였습니다. 갈레는 마하 파라크라마바후 왕의 통치 기간 동안 매우 중요한 지역이었으며, 네덜란드, 포르투갈, 영국이 그들의 왕국을 세우는 데 크게 기여했습니다.
갈레는 "기마티타"로 불렸습니다. 싱할라어 발음 "가알라"는 "가라" (돌)에서 유래한 것입니다. 가라는 소의 수레가 만나는 장소를 의미합니다. 이후 이 지역에는 큰 바위와 언덕이 있었기 때문에 "가알라"라고 발음하게 되었습니다.
갈레 지역에서 많은 사람들이 싱할라 문학에 중요한 기여를 했습니다. 토타가무와 비자야바 푸리베나, 코트 시대의 유명한 교육 기관은 많은 유명 학자들을 배출했습니다. 히카두웨 스리 수망갈라 테라, 미게투왓테 구난난다 테라, 마틴 윅라마싱헤, 난다다사 코다고다, 에드윈 아리야다사, M.B. 아리야팔라, 구나다사 아마라세케라, D.J. 위말라수렌드라, 세나랏 파라나위타나, A.T. 아리야라트네, 아리야팔라 구룬난세는 갈레의 유명한 주민들 중 일부입니다.
갈레 문학 축제는 매년 1월에 3,000명의 사람들을 갈레로 불러들이며, 남아시아 전역의 작가들을 끌어들입니다.
