푸탈람 지구
푸탈람은 스리랑카 서해안 인근에 위치한 지구입니다. 면적은 3,072km²(1,186제곱마일)입니다. 쿠루네갈라 지구와 함께 스리랑카의 북서부 주를 형성합니다. 지구의 수도는 푸탈람으로, 북쪽으로는 칼라 오야와 모다라감 아루, 동쪽으로는 아누라다푸라 지구와 쿠루네갈라 지구, 남쪽으로는 마 오야, 서쪽으로는 인도양과 접해 있습니다. 푸탈람은 얕은 수심에서의 해양 낚시와 새우 양식으로 유명한 아름다운 라군들로 잘 알려져 있습니다. 또한 칼피티야 마을과 칼피티야 반도도 이 지구에 위치해 있습니다.
푸탈람 지구는 다종교 지역입니다. 불교가 이 지역의 주요 종교로, 아누라다푸라 왕국 초기부터 자리 잡아 왔습니다. 두 번째로 널리 퍼진 종교는 로마 가톨릭입니다. 이 두 주요 종교 외에도 힌두교, 기독교, 이슬람교가 이 지역에 잘 정착되어 있습니다. 문네스와람 힌두 사원과 탈라윌라의 성 안나 교회는 이 지역의 대표적인 역사적 종교 유적지입니다.
