Provincia di Sabaragamuwa
Sabaragamuwa è un altro province dello Sri Lanka, situato nella regione centro-meridionale dell'isola ed è composto da due distretti amministrativi: Ratnapura e Kegalle. Sabaragamuwa prende il nome dai suoi ex abitanti indigeni, i Sabara, un termine indiano per le tribù di cacciatori-raccoglitori, un termine raramente usato nell'antico Sri Lanka. La provincia è molto conosciuta per la sua industria delle gemme, in particolare il Distretto di Ratnapura. Oltre all'industria delle gemme, la provincia è nota per le coltivazioni di riso e frutta e per le piantagioni di gomma. Nella provincia ci sono anche attrazioni turistiche come la Riserva Forestale di Sinharaja, il Parco Nazionale Udawalawa, Kitulgala, e Adam’s Peak ecc.
La capitale della provincia è Ratnapura, il cui nome significa 'città delle gemme', una città conosciuta soprattutto per la consolidata industria delle gemme dello Sri Lanka. La maggior parte degli abitanti della città dipende dal commercio delle gemme. Le miniere di gemme sono una vista comune nelle aree circostanti. La maggior parte dei grandi imprenditori del settore opera da Ratnapura. Nella città operano anche numerosi commercianti stranieri di gemme. Attualmente la coltivazione del riso a Ratnapura affronta un futuro incerto poiché molti agricoltori stanno abbandonando il riso per dedicarsi all'estrazione di gemme, un modo più produttivo per guadagnare denaro. Molti frutti deliziosi come mango e papaya e anche verdure vengono coltivati come prodotti di mercato.
Ratnapura è situata sulla Strada A4 che collega la capitale Colombo a Kalmunai nella Provincia Orientale. Un'altra strada, la A8, collega la città con Panadura sulla costa occidentale dello Sri Lanka. Ratnapura ha un clima tropicale da foresta pluviale climatico. La città è situata nella parte sud-occidentale dello Sri Lanka, la cosiddetta zona umida. La città riceve piogge principalmente dai monsoni sud-occidentali da maggio a settembre ed è spesso allagata.
Provincia di Sabaragamuwa
Ci sono molti luoghi di culto nella città e nei dintorni. Alcuni di essi sono la montagna Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak), Maha Saman Devale, Delgamu Viharaya, Pothgul Viharaya, Diva Guhava, il Tempio di Siva, la Moschea Jumma, le Chiese di Saints Peter e Paul e di St. Luke.
Le creazioni naturali scenografiche sono le cascate come Bopath Ella situata a Kuruwita, Katugas Ella, una cascata popolare situata a Mahawalawatta, a 3 km da Ratnapura; Kirindi Ella, la settima cascata più alta dello Sri Lanka situata a 4 km dalla Strada Principale Ratnapura-Pelmadulla; Rajanawa, situata accanto alla Strada Principale Ratnapura-Kalawana nel villaggio di Marapana.

Northern ProvinceThe Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.
