Experience:

Your tour will begin at the Lavendish Beach Resort, Unawatuna, where you will be met by your guide at 09:00 hrs. You will be provided with all the necessary equipment. If you are a PADI-certified diver, you may dive alone. If not, you will undergo a basic training session with our instructors and be accompanied by them on your dive, regardless of experience. This is to ensure a safe and memorable experience.

Unawatuna has five main dive sites. Two of these are shipwrecks. The SS Orestes, mistakenly called the 'Tango Wreck', sank in 1875 after striking the Gindura Reef. This wreck, located 24 meters deep, is a popular site for beginner divers and holiday visitors, home to many fish living within it.

The SS Rangoon, a more scenic site, lies at a depth of 32 meters. This century-old British steamer remains upright on a smooth sandy section of the sea floor. The wreck is full of colorful sea life, making it a great location for underwater photography.

The remaining dive sites are reefs and rocky formations. The Napoleon Reef and Talpe Reef are home to rare fish and beautiful, colorful corals worth seeing. The final site, known as 'Galu Gala', is a deep-sea dive site still being explored. It will not be visited on this tour unless you are a certified diver diving independently. This site holds many possibilities, but not many details are known as of yet.

You may visit one or more of the first four dive sites during your two- to three-hour tour. A bottle of water will be provided to keep you hydrated during this adventure. Your diving instructor will guide you through the best sights while you are underwater. Visibility is usually quite good, but it depends on weather conditions. Therefore, tours are held between November and April, when the weather is more likely to be clear.
