District de Puttalam
Puttalam est un district situé près de la côte ouest du Sri Lanka. Il couvre une superficie de 3 072 km² (1 186 miles carrés). Avec le district de Kurunegala, il forme la province du Nord-Ouest du Sri Lanka. La capitale du district est Puttalam, qui est bordée au nord par le Kala Oya et le Modaragam Aru, à l’est par les districts d’Anuradhapura et de Kurunegala, au sud par le Ma Oya et à l’ouest par l’océan Indien. Puttalam est réputé pour ses lagunes pittoresques, prisées pour la pêche maritime en eaux peu profondes et l’élevage de crevettes. La ville de Kalpitiya ainsi que la péninsule de Kalpitiya se trouvent également dans ce district.
Le district de Puttalam est une région multireligieuse. Le bouddhisme y est la religion dominante et s’y est implanté dès les débuts du royaume d’Anuradhapura.
