Sabaragamuwa-provincie
Sabaragamuwa is weer een provincie van Sri Lanka, gelegen in het zuidcentrale deel van het eiland en bestaat uit twee bestuurlijke districten: Ratnapura en Kegalle. Sabaragamuwa is vernoemd naar de voormalige inheemse bewoners, namelijk de Sabara, een Indische term voor jager-verzamelaarsstammen, een term die zelden werd gebruikt in het oude Sri Lanka. De provincie staat bekend om zijn edelsteenindustrie, met name het Ratnapura district. Naast de edelsteenindustrie staat de provincie ook bekend om rijst- en fruitteelt en rubberplantages. In de provincie zijn ook toeristische attracties zoals het Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Udawalawa National Park, Kitulgala en Adam’s Peak, enz.
De hoofdstad van de provincie is Ratnapura, de naam betekent ‘stad van edelstenen’, een stad die vooral bekend staat om de lang gevestigde edelsteenindustrie in Sri Lanka. Het merendeel van de inwoners van de stad is afhankelijk van de edelsteenhandel. Edelsteenmijnen zijn een veelvoorkomend verschijnsel in de omgeving. De meeste grootschalige edelsteenhandelaren opereren vanuit Ratnapura. Er zijn ook aanzienlijke aantallen buitenlandse edelsteenhandelaren actief in de stad. Rijstteelt staat momenteel voor een onzekere toekomst in Ratnapura omdat veel boeren stoppen met rijstteelt en overschakelen op edelsteenwinning, wat een productievere manier is om geld te verdienen. Veel heerlijke vruchten zoals mango en papaja en ook groenten worden als marktproducten verbouwd.
Ratnapura ligt aan de A4-snelweg die de hoofdstad Colombo verbindt met Kalmunai in de Oostelijke Provincie. Een andere snelweg, de A8, verbindt de stad met Panadura aan de westkust van Sri Lanka. Ratnapura heeft een tropisch regenwoudklimaat. De stad ligt in het zuidwestelijke deel van Sri Lanka, de zogenaamde natte zone. De stad ontvangt voornamelijk neerslag van de zuidwestelijke moesson van mei tot september en wordt vaak overstroomd.
Sabaragamuwa Provincie
Er zijn veel plaatsen van aanbidding in en rond de stad. Enkele daarvan zijn de berg Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak), Maha Saman Devale, Delgamu Viharaya, Pothgul Viharaya, Diva Guhava, de Shiva-tempel, Jumma-moskee, de kerken van Sint-Pieter en Paulus en Sint-Lukas.
De schilderachtige creaties van de natuur zijn de watervallen zoals Bopath Ella gelegen in Kuruwita, Katugas Ella, een populaire waterval gelegen in Mahawalawatta, 3 km van Ratnapura; Kirindi Ella, de op zeven na hoogste waterval van Sri Lanka gelegen op 4 km van de Ratnapura-Pelmadulla hoofdweg; Rajanawa, gelegen naast de Ratnapura-Kalawana hoofdweg in het dorp Marapana.

Sabaragamuwa ProvinceSabaragamuwa is yet another province of Sri Lanka, located in the south-central region of the island and is comprised of two administrative districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle.

North Western ProvinceNorth Western Province is comprised of two administrative districts viz. Kurunegala and Puttalam. The provincial capital is Kurunegala that has a population of 28,571. The province is well known for its coconut plantations.

Northern ProvinceThe Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.

Eastern ProvinceAnother province of Sri Lanka mostly known for its golden beaches and the natural harbour, the Eastern Province which is 9,996 km2 in extent consists of three administrative districts namely Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
