Provincie Uva

De provincie Uva bestaat uit twee districten: Badulla en Moneragala, terwijl de hoofdstad van de provincie Badulla is. Uva grenst aan de Oostelijke, Zuidelijke en Centrale provincies. De symbolische berg van Uva is Namunukula, die de hoogste is van de bergketen rondom de stad Badulla. Op een heldere dag kan men vanaf de top van Namunukula genieten van spectaculaire uitzichten over het Welimada-bekken, Kataragama en het strand van Hambantota. Ook de zonsopgang en zonsondergang zijn er bijzonder indrukwekkend.

In de provincie Uva bevinden zich een aantal van Sri Lanka’s beroemde watervallen, zoals Dunhinda Falls, Diyaluma Falls, Rawana Falls en Bambarakanda Falls, evenals nationale parken zoals Yala (gedeeltelijk gelegen in de Zuidelijke en Oostelijke provincies) en Gal Oya (gedeeltelijk gelegen in de Oostelijke provincie). De Gal Oya-heuvels en de centrale bergen vormen de belangrijkste hooglanden, terwijl de Mahaweli- en Menik-rivieren en de Senanayake- en Maduru Oya-reservoirs de belangrijkste waterwegen zijn. De belangrijkste erfgoedsites in en rond Badulla zijn de oude Muthiyangana-tempel, Dowa-tempel, de Bogoda oude houten brug en de Bogoda-boeddhistische tempel. De Muthiyangana-tempel ligt aan een uiteinde van de stad Badulla, terwijl de Bogoda houten brug en tempel zich dicht bij de stad Hali-ela bevinden. De oude Rawana-boeddhistische tempel is ook populair bij toeristen die de Rawana-grot en de Rawana-waterval in Ella bezoeken.

Haputale is een stadje in het district Badulla en het hoogste bergmassief is Kirigalpotta. De Haputale–Beragala-pas biedt op een heldere dag een prachtig uitzicht op de Zuidelijke en Sabaragamuwa-provincies. De hoogte bedraagt 1.431 m (4.695 ft) boven zeeniveau. Het gebied beschikt over een rijke biodiversiteit met een grote verscheidenheid aan flora en fauna. Door de hoogte heeft de stad een koeler klimaat dan de omliggende gebieden. De Haputale-pas biedt uitzicht over de zuidelijke vlaktes van Sri Lanka. De zuidwestelijke grens van het Uva-bekken wordt gemarkeerd door de Haputale-bergruggen, die verder doorlopen naar de Horton Plains en Adam’s Peak in het westen. CNN noemde Haputale een van de meest onontdekte bestemmingen van Azië. Bezienswaardigheden in Haputale zijn onder andere Lipton’s Seat en .

  • The Central Province is located in the central hills of Sri Lanka comprising of three administrative districts: Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya. The land area of the province is 5,575 km2 which is 8.6% of the total land area of Sri Lanka.

  • The Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of three districts: Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Farming and fishing are the main sources of income for the vast majority of the people in this region.

  • The Uva Province consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala while the capital of the province is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern and Central provinces.

  • The Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.
