Distretto di Kegalle
Kegalle è un distretto della Provincia di Sabaragamuwa nello Sri Lanka. È uno dei 25 distretti del paese e rappresenta il secondo livello di suddivisione amministrativa. Il distretto è amministrato da una Segreteria Distrettuale guidata da un Segretario Distrettuale (in precedenza noto come Agente del Governo), nominato dal governo centrale dello Sri Lanka. In passato era una Dissavani dello Sri Lanka.
Il distretto copre un’area di 1.693 km². Secondo il censimento del 2012, la popolazione è di 837.179 abitanti, pari a circa il 4,0% della popolazione totale dello Sri Lanka.
Il distretto di Kegalle è situato tra gli altopiani centrali e le pianure sud-occidentali, e gode di un ambiente naturale affascinante. L’altitudine della regione occidentale è di circa 50 m (160 piedi) sul livello del mare, mentre quella della regione orientale supera i 1.800 m (5.900 piedi). La coltivazione della gomma si estende sulla maggior parte del territorio del distretto e tra le colture minori destinate all’esportazione figurano il caffè, il cacao, il pepe, il chiodo di garofano e la noce moscata. La migliore miniera di grafite dello Sri Lanka si trova a Bogala, nel distretto di Kegalle. L’estensione totale del distretto è di 1.692,8 km² (653,6 miglia quadrate).
