District d'Hambantota
Le district de Hambantota est situé sur la côte sud-est de Sri Lanka. Il couvre une superficie de 2 593 km² et Hambantota bénéficie d'un climat tropical humide et sec tropical, sans véritable saison sèche, mais avec beaucoup moins de pluie de janvier à mars et encore de juin à août. Les pluies les plus fortes tombent en octobre et novembre.
La capitale du district est la ville de Hambantota. C'est là que se trouvent les quartiers administratifs ainsi que le centre de production de sel. D'autres villes importantes incluent Tangalle, Ambalantota, Tissamaharama et Beliatta.
À environ 240 km de Colombo, Hambantota est en pleine transformation pour devenir un port stratégique et un centre commercial, avec un développement important de son infrastructure. Bordée de plages de sable, Hambantota est un lieu pratique pour visiter les attractions voisines.
Hambantota est située au point le plus proche de la principale route maritime, la rue de Malacca / le canal de Suez, qui relie l'Est et l'Ouest. Le soleil chinois s'est levé à Hambantota : un gigantesque nouveau port financé par la Chine, le port de Hambantota, prend forme et sera ouvert en novembre 2010.
Un nouvel aéroport, compatible avec les derniers avions Airbus A380, est en construction à Hambantota, et il y a un stade international de cricket à Hambantota.
Les premiers jardins botaniques de Sri Lanka dans la zone sèche, qui bientôt deviendront les plus grands de l'île, sont en cours de développement sur un site de 300 acres à Mirijjawila, Hambantota. Le jardin a pour objectif de conserver la grande zone verte et la biodiversité autour de Hambantota. Hambantota était autrefois un village dans la jungle ; dans l'année à venir, Hambantota est destiné à devenir un miracle du développement moderne du jour au lendemain.
De plus, le district de Hambantota regorge de nombreuses attractions touristiques telles que Tissa Lake, Tissamaharama Raja Maha Vihara, Kirinda Vihara Maha Devi Temple, Yatala Dalada Wehera, Wirawila Tissa Sanctuary, Kirinda Beach, Hummanaya Blow Hole, Goyambokka Beach, Ussangoda National Park, Mulgirigala Raja Maha Viharaya, Kudawella Beach, Yala National Park, Hambanthota Harbor, Martello Tower.
