Provincia Central
La Provincia Central se encuentra en las colinas centrales de Sri Lanka y comprende tres distritos administrativos: Kandy, Matale y Nuwara Eliya. La superficie terrestre de la provincia es de 5.575 km², lo que representa el 8,6% de la superficie total de Sri Lanka. La provincia se encuentra entre las latitudes 6,6°-7,7° norte y las longitudes 80,5°-80,9° este. La altitud en la provincia varía entre 600 pies y más de 6.000 pies sobre el nivel del mar. La provincia limita al norte con la Provincia Norte-Central, al este con el río Mahaweli, al sur con Uma Oya y las cadenas montañosas de Adam’s Peak, Kirigalpotta y Thotapala, y al oeste con las cadenas montañosas Dolosbage y Galagedera.
Kandy es la segunda ciudad más grande de Sri Lanka y la ciudad principal de la Provincia Central, así como del Distrito de Kandy. Esta antigua ciudad se encuentra a una altitud de 465 metros (1.526 pies) sobre el nivel del mar. Kandy fue la última capital del antiguo reino de Sri Lanka y es una de las ciudades más sagradas del país debido al Templo de la Reliquia del Diente Sagrado. En la orilla norte del lago, que está rodeado por un parapeto de piedra blanca que data de principios del siglo XIX, se encuentran los monumentos religiosos oficiales de la ciudad, incluyendo el Templo del Diente, conocido como Dalada Maligawa, y el Palacio Real. Reconstruido en el siglo XVIII, el Dalada Maligawa está construido sobre una base de granito, inspirado en los templos de la antigua capital de Sri Lanka, Anuradhapura. Diversos materiales contribuyen a la riqueza de este templo. A lo largo de esta pequeña ciudad sagrada se pueden encontrar varios monasterios budistas. Kandy se encuentra en el interior montañoso y densamente boscoso de la isla, rodeada por múltiples cadenas montañosas, incluidas las Knuckles y Hantana, lo que le otorga una altitud de 500 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Nuwara Eliya, que significa “ciudad de la luz”, es una localidad en las tierras altas centrales de Sri Lanka con un paisaje pintoresco y un clima templado. Nuwara Eliya, la ciudad principal del Distrito de Nuwara Eliya, se encuentra a una altitud de 1.868 m (6.128 pies) y se considera el lugar más importante para la producción de té en Sri Lanka. La ciudad se ubica con vista al Piduruthalagala, la montaña más alta de Sri Lanka. Central ProvinceThe Central Province is located in the central hills of Sri Lanka comprising of three administrative districts: Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya. The land area of the province is 5,575 km2 which is 8.6% of the total land area of Sri Lanka.

Southern ProvinceThe Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of three districts: Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Farming and fishing are the main sources of income for the vast majority of the people in this region.

Uva ProvinceThe Uva Province consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala while the capital of the province is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern and Central provinces.

Sabaragamuwa ProvinceSabaragamuwa is yet another province of Sri Lanka, located in the south-central region of the island and is comprised of two administrative districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle.

North Western ProvinceNorth Western Province is comprised of two administrative districts viz. Kurunegala and Puttalam. The provincial capital is Kurunegala that has a population of 28,571. The province is well known for its coconut plantations.

Northern ProvinceThe Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.

Eastern ProvinceAnother province of Sri Lanka mostly known for its golden beaches and the natural harbour, the Eastern Province which is 9,996 km2 in extent consists of three administrative districts namely Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
