穆莱蒂武区
穆莱蒂武区是斯里兰卡25个行政区之一,属于国家第二级行政区划。该区由地区秘书处负责管理,由斯里兰卡中央政府任命的地区秘书(此前称为政府代理)领导。该区首府为穆莱蒂武镇。
现今穆莱蒂武区的部分地区在殖民时期之前曾属于贾夫纳王国。随后,该区先后受到葡萄牙、荷兰和英国的统治。1815年,英国控制了整个锡兰岛,并将其划分为三个基于族群的行政体系:低地僧伽罗人、康提僧伽罗人和泰米尔人。当时作为瓦尼区一部分的该地区,隶属于泰米尔行政体系。1833年,根据科尔布鲁克–卡梅伦委员会的建议,基于族群的行政结构被统一为一个行政体系,并划分为五个地理省份。瓦尼区与贾夫纳区及曼纳尔区共同组成了新的北部省。
瓦尼区随后被更名为穆莱蒂武区,之后又更名为瓦武尼亚区。18世纪后半叶,该区由来自贾夫纳半岛的居民进行殖居,主要来自阿拉韦迪、乌杜皮迪和纳瓦利等地。锡兰获得独立时,瓦武尼亚是北部省的三个区之一。穆莱蒂武区于1978年9月从瓦武尼亚区北部划分成立,同时并入当时的贾夫纳区、曼纳尔区和亭可马里区的部分地区。
在内战期间,穆莱蒂武区多年处于泰米尔伊拉姆解放虎组织(LTTE)的控制之下。该区于2009年初被斯里兰卡军方重新收复。
穆莱蒂武区位于斯里兰卡东北部,隶属于北部省,面积为2,617平方公里(1,010平方英里)。
穆莱蒂武区下设6个分区秘书处(DS Divisions),每个分区由一名分区秘书(此前称为助理政府代理)负责管理。这些分区进一步划分为136个格拉马尼拉达里分区(GN Divisions)。
