You can also see the top part from the main road, though it’s not a complete view. To see the full view of the top part, you need to climb up, and there’s a pathway just before the bridge. While the climb may be a bit challenging, you'll be rewarded with a great view of the top falls and the surrounding landscape.
Seetha Amman Temple
The Seetha Amman Temple is located on the way to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens. The prominent temple architecture will surely capture your attention. Ancient statues of Rama and Sita can be seen on one side of the temple. Today, the temple is a modern building, with paintings, statues, and pillars decorated with sculptures, all depicting the story of Rama and Sita.
Divurumpola
Divurumpola Temple is still revered by thousands, as it was the place where Sita underwent her Agni Pariksha (trial by fire) to prove her chastity to her husband Rama. This practice has been followed for thousands of years, with villagers still pledging their fidelity or taking oaths there. In some courts, such oaths are even binding. This sacred place has been respected and worshipped by people throughout the ages.
2 dagar i Yala
Ella
Ella is a small mountain village near Bandarawela, known for its three locations tied to the Ramayana, where local legend claims Ravana hid Sita. The first site is the Ravana Ella Cave, located at the massive Ella Falls, a breathtaking 1080-foot-high waterfall cascading into multiple streams. The rocky area around the waterfall is made of Khondalite, a type of limestone that decays faster than hard gneiss or granite, resulting in many caves near the falls. It is said that King Ravana lived in one of the caves above the waterfall. A nearby pool, carved from the rock by the gushing waters, is where Sita is said to have bathed.
Kataragama
The temple of Lord Karthikeya Subramaniam is located in Kataragama. Lord Karthikeya was summoned by Lord Indra on the last day of the war to protect Lord Rama from the wrath of Brahmasthra, aimed by King Ravana, which would have weakened Rama. Lord Karthikeya’s presence rendered the powerful Brahmasthra useless the second time it was aimed at Lord Rama. Three poojas (offerings) take place daily at the temple. Visitors are advised to bring a tray filled with fruits, incense, and a little money for the offerings. You will receive half of the fruits back, which you may partake.
Yala National Park
This incredible three-hour safari offers the opportunity to visit Yala National Park, the second largest national park on the island, located on the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka. The park is home to Sri Lanka's famous leopards, wild water buffalo, Sri Lankan Sloth Bears, and large herds of Sri Lankan Elephants. Additionally, the park houses many other species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates, providing a diverse wildlife experience.
2 dagar i Galle
Ussangoda
Ussangoda is a unique coastal area known for its lack of trees. Its serpentine rock contains toxic heavy metals, and only specific smaller plants have adapted to this soil. According to Ramayana legends, there are two additional explanations for the baldness of Ussangoda. After meeting Sitadevi, Lord Hanuman provoked the mighty King Ravana and his army of Rakshasas. As a result, Hanuman's tail was set on fire by Rakshasas. In turn, Hanuman torched parts of Ravana’s empire with his burning tail. Ussangoda is said to be one of these burned areas. The legend also suggests that the Ussangoda plateau was once used as an airport by King Ravana for his Dandumonara peacock chariot, before Hanuman destroyed the landing site.
Rumasalla Mountain
Rumassala Hill, located 3 km east of Galle, is a prominent landmark of Unuwatuna beach, especially because of the picturesque white Buddhist dagoba on top. Rumassala Rock is believed to be one of the five spots in Sri Lanka that originated from parts of Mount Dronagiri. These pieces fell when Hanuman carried Mount Dronagiri on his flight back to Lanka to use its Sanjiwani herb to rescue Lakshmana and Rama, who needed the plant to be revived after suffering severe injuries. Additionally, it is said that Rumassala served as an abode for Sita during her stay in Lanka.
