I Sri Lanka är distrikt andra nivåns administrativa enheter, organiserade inom landets nio provinsen. Ön är indelad i 25 distrikt, som var och en övervakas av en distriktssekreterare, en tjänsteman som utses av centralregeringen. Distriktssekreterarens roll är avgörande för att säkerställa smidig styrning, då han fungerar som den primära länken mellan centralregeringen och lokala administrationer. Varje distrikt är vidare uppdelat i Divisionssekreterarens divisioner (DS-divisioner), som fungerar som ett tredje administrativt nivå. Sri Lanka har totalt 231 DS-divisioner, som tillhandahåller lokal förvaltning.
