Rumassala é uma bela montanha localizada a 3 km a leste da cidade de Galle, na Província do Sul de Sri Lanka, diretamente ligada à Yatra de Ramayana em Sri Lanka. De acordo com o tour da trilha de Ramayana em Sri Lanka, acredita-se que essa característica geográfica incomum tenha caído quando Hanuman transportou a montanha Dronagiri em seu voo de volta para Lanka para usar as ervas Sanjeevani, que salvam vidas. Essas ervas eram necessárias para salvar Lakshmana e Rama, que estavam gravemente feridos na guerra. Portanto, Rumassala é uma das cinco montanhas Sanjivani em Sri Lanka e um local importante para o tour de Ramayana em Sri Lanka.

Lenda

De acordo com o famoso épico sânscrito Ramayana, quando a esposa do príncipe Rama, Sita, foi sequestrada pelo rei demônio Ravana, Rama, junto com seu irmão mais novo e o semideus macaco Hanuman, a seguiu até Sri Lanka. Durante a feroz batalha para resgatá-la, o irmão de Rama, Lakshmana, ficou gravemente ferido, e Hanuman foi enviado para encontrar as ervas medicinais necessárias para curá-lo. Diz-se que o semideus, em sua confusão para encontrar o remédio certo, quebrou um pedaço da montanha sagrada. A montanha quebrou em cinco pedaços separados, e acredita-se que um deles tenha caído onde a montanha Rumassala está localizada hoje. Enquanto carregava a montanha, diz-se que partes dela caíram em cinco lugares em Sri Lanka: Rumassala em Galle, Dolu Kanda em Hiripitiya, Ritigala na estrada Habarana-Anuradhapura, Thalladi em Mannar e Kachchativu no norte.

Hoje, a majestosa montanha permanece como um testemunho dos fascinantes eventos mencionados no épico. Com histórias estranhas de viajantes que se perderam na montanha, Rumassala também é um refúgio para ervas. Pesquisadores encontraram quase 150 espécies únicas de ervas que, estranhamente, não crescem em nenhum outro lugar.

  • Pidurutalagala or Mount Pedro in English, is an ultra prominent peak, and the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, at 2,524 m (8,281 ft). Mount Pedro is located close to the city of Nuwara Eliya, and is easily visible from most areas of the Central Province. It is situated North-North-East from the town of Nuwara Eliya.

  • Ritigala can be reached from the turn-off from Habarana-Anuradhapura Road at a distance of 12 km from Habarana. Another 5 km along a graveled yet motorable road leads to the foot of the mountain.

  • Ethagala (the Elephant Rock) is one of seven rocks that overlook the town of Kurunegala, in Sri Lanka. The rock face reaches 316 metres (1,037 ft) over the town and in its shape resembles a crouching elephant, which explains the rock’s name.
