Picos

Montanhas e picos em Sri Lanka. Nas partes central e sul de Sri Lanka, há várias montanhas e picos com grande importância ecológica e rica biodiversidade. Essas montanhas são preservadas como florestas e são o ponto de origem de muitos rios. O Sri Pada é o pico sagrado de Sri Lanka, onde os peregrinos vão adorar a pegada de Buda.

A região das Terras Altas (Hill Country) é excepcionalmente bela, com cachoeiras cristalinas e plantações de chá espalhadas por toda a paisagem. A temperatura nesta região permanece fresca durante o ano inteiro, com uma atmosfera de início de primavera pela manhã. Tudo é verde e exuberante, e a paisagem é elevada com camadas de colinas cobertas de grama e cachoeiras íngremes, enquanto as densas florestas montanhosas se agarram às encostas superiores. Os dias se arrastam calmamente nesta região, com pouco mais para fazer, além de beber chá (em abundância) e absorver a tranquilidade e as caminhadas deslumbrantes e vistas incríveis.

Há várias pequenas cidades que definitivamente valem a pena ser visitadas, como Nuwara Eliya. Também há algumas maravilhas majestosas da natureza para explorar, como World’s End e o Pico de Adão.

World’s End está localizado no Parque Nacional Horton Plains, que é uma área de altas terras onduladas com campos de grama, intercalados com florestas e vegetação rara em grandes altitudes. As planícies alcançam mais de 2000 metros de altura, com as montanhas de Kirigalpotta e Thotupola Kanda se erguendo das bordas do platô. No entanto, a característica mais impressionante desse estranho e silencioso mundo das planícies é o World’s End, onde as planícies param abruptamente e você fica suspenso sobre um desfiladeiro vertical de 880 metros.

  • Reaching upto 2388m (7835 feet) above mean sea level, Kirigalpoththa Mountain in Sri Lanka looms in the district of Nuwara Eliya casting its shadow over the main city. This mountain is the second tallest of the island paradise Sri Lanka, and the tallest of the mountains in the island.

  • Totapolakanda is the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka situated in Nuwara Eliya district 2,357 m above mean sea level. The mountain is located within the Horton Plains National Park. A trail to the top of the mountain, about two kilometres long, starts a few metres away from the Pattipola entrance to the Horton Plains National Park.

  • The most famous physical feature of Ceylon is Adam’s Peak, which is situated in the Ratnapura district. It is on the edge of the central massif but its surrounding group of mountains called the Wilderness of the Peak . It is about 7500 ft high and, though it is the second-highest peak in the land.

  • Gommolliya Peak is part of theKnuckles Mountain Rangein central Sri Lanka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its biodiversity and scenic beauty. The peak is located in theKandy District, which is in the central highlands of Sri Lanka.

  • Bambarakanda Peak is located in theBadulla Districtof Sri Lanka, within theUva Province. It is part of the central highlands and is situated near the famousBambarakanda Falls, the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The area is renowned for its lush greenery, cool climate, and stunning natural beauty.

  • The Riverston Peak in Sri Lanka can be reached by travelling, about 30km away from the Matale town, down the Matale– Girandurukotte Road. This secretive windy road, with its sharp hairpin turns, offers some of the best views to the surrounding countryside; to the extent that it is called the Mini World’s End.
