Eriobotrya japonica - Tree up to 6 m tall; young branches rusty tomentose. Leaves 15-25 cm long, 4-7 cm broad; petiole 0.5 to 1 cm long. Stipules about 1 cm long, persistent. Inflorescence densely flowered, terminal panicles, rusty tomentose. Flowers more or less sessile, petals white (inside); stamens 20. Fruit globose or ovoid, 3 to 4 cm in diameter, with persistent calyx lobes at apex, yellow when ripe. Seeds sometimes as large as the fruit.
