Anuradhapura City
Anuradhapura is belongs to the North Central Province in to Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Lankan civilization. The city, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies 205 km north of the current capital Colombo in Sri Lanka.
Anuradhapura Gedige
Anuradhapura Gedige ist ein altes Gebäude in der Nähe von Abhayagiri , liegt jedoch innerhalb der Zitadelle und wurde im Jahr 948 n. Chr. von den Cholas zerstört und von König Mahinda IV. während seiner Herrschaft von 956 bis 972 n. Chr. wieder aufgebaut. Es heißt, dass dies das Gebäude war, in dem das heilige Buch Dhammadatu untergebracht war, das im sechsten Jahrhundert nach Lanka gebracht worden war. Doch kürzlich wurde das Gebäude aufgrund sorgfältiger Bemühungen von der Archäologischen Abteilung in „Zahntempel“ umbenannt. Dabei handelt es sich um die heilige Reliquie des Buddha, die im 4. Jahrhundert n. Chr. auf die Insel gebracht und zunächst im Abhayagiri-Kloster aufbewahrt wurde.
Während viele dieser Gebäude ihre Aufmerksamkeit erhalten und große Anstrengungen unternommen wurden, um die in ihren Steinen oder Ziegeln verborgenen Geheimnisse zu lüften, ist dies bei anderen nicht der Fall. Östlich des Tempels der Zahnreliquie und nordöstlich des Palastes von König Vijayabahu liegt ein kleines verfallenes Bauwerk aus Ziegeln, heruntergekommen und nur noch ein erbärmlicher Haufen rissiger Blöcke. Auch wenn seine Lage innerhalb der Zitadelle – in der Nähe des Palastes und des Zahntempels – Interesse erregen sollte, kennt niemand seine Geschichte.
Die Größe dieses Gedige beträgt 34 x 34 Fuß und er besteht vollständig aus Ziegeln. Ein weiteres Gebäude ähnlicher Größe und Form, ebenfalls aus Ziegeln gebaut, liegt neben dem Gedige. Beide scheinen halbkuppelige Dächer gehabt zu haben, doch in ihrem ruinösen Zustand lässt sich die Höhe ihrer Erhebung nur erahnen. Diese Bauwerke oder die Überreste davon sind die einzigen bekannten Bildhäuser, die in Anuradhapura vollständig aus Ziegeln gebaut wurden. Lediglich die Fensterrahmen und die Eingangstür wurden aus Granit gebaut.

LankaramaLankarama is a stupa built by King Valagamba, in an ancient place at Galhebakada in the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Nothing is known about the ancient form of the stupa, and later this was renovated. The ruins show that there are rows of stone pillars and it is no doubt that there has been a house built encircling the stupa (vatadage) to cover it.

In the sacred city of Anuradhapura and in the vicinity are a large number of ruins. The ruins consist of three classes of buildings, dagobas, monastic buildings, and pokuna (ponds). The city had some of the most complex irrigation systems of the ancient world, situated in the dry zone of the country the administration built many tanks to irrigate the land. Most of the civilians are Sinhala, while Tamils and Sri Lankan Moors live in the district.
