Okres Nuwara Eliya
Okres Nuwara Eliya je okres v Centrální provincii, Srí Lance, jehož středem je turistické město Nuwara Eliya. Jeho název znamená "město na rovině (vysočina)" nebo "město světla". Město bylo založeno Samuelem Bakerem, objevitelem jezera Albert a horního Nilu, v roce 1846. Klima Nuwara Eliya se stalo hlavním útočištěm britských státních úředníků a plantážníků v Cejlonu. Nuwara Eliya, nazývaná Malá Anglie, byla horským útočištěm, kde britští kolonialisté mohli provozovat své oblíbené činnosti, jako je hon na lišky, lov jelenů, lov slonů, pólo, golf a kriket. Díky své vysočinné poloze má Nuwara Eliya subtropické vysočinné klima, bez výrazného suchého období, s monzunově oblačným obdobím a průměrnou roční teplotou 16 °C (61 °F). V zimních měsících může v noci být mráz, ale během dne se rychle oteplí kvůli vysokému slunečnímu úhlu.
Město ožívá v dubnu při oslavách Sinhálského a Tamilského nového roku. Slavnosti začínají každoročně 1. dubna ceremoniálním způsobem. Hlavní atrakce během dubna zahrnují motoristické a dostihové akce. Motoristické závody se odehrávají při stoupáních Mahagastotte a Radella, první z nich se koná od roku 1934. Silniční závody v Nuwara Eliya a 4x4 Lake Cross na okraji jezera Gregory přitahují spoustu nadšenců. Večerní párty se konají v hotelích a sezóna vrcholí závodem o Guvernérův pohár na vzdálenost devět furlongů (1811 m) na dostihovém závodišti Nuwara Eliya, golfovými turnaji v golfovém klubu Nuwara Eliya a květinovou přehlídkou na konci měsíce.
Ptačí rezervace Galway's Land, poblíž jezera Gregory, je oblast horského lesa několik kilometrů východně od města. Pokrývá plochu 0,6 km² a je domovem mnoha druhů ptáků a savců endemických pro Srí Lanku, včetně divokých prasat a jelenů barking deer. Město slouží jako základna pro návštěvy .
