Kilinochchi Bölgesi
Kilinochchi Bölgesi, Sri Lanka’nın 25 bölgesinden biridir ve ülkenin ikinci düzey idari birimini oluşturur. Bölge, Sri Lanka merkezi hükümeti tarafından atanan bir Bölge Sekreteri (önceden Hükümet Temsilcisi olarak bilinir) tarafından yönetilen bir Bölge Sekreterliği tarafından idare edilir. Bölgenin başkenti Kilinochchi şehridir.
MÖ 5. yüzyıldan MS 13. yüzyıla kadar, günümüzdeki Kilinochchi Bölgesi Rajarata’nın bir parçasıydı. Daha sonra Kilinochchi Bölgesinin büyük bir bölümü, sömürge öncesi Jaffna Krallığı’nın bir parçası oldu. Ardından bölge sırasıyla Portekiz, Hollanda ve Britanya yönetimi altına girdi. 1815 yılında Britanyalılar tüm Seylan adasının kontrolünü ele geçirdi ve adayı üç etnik temelli idari yapıya ayırdı: alçak bölge Sinhalaları, Kandy Sinhala’ları ve Tamil halkı. O dönemde Jaffna Bölgesinin bir parçası olan bu bölge, Tamil yönetimine bağlıydı. 1833 yılında Colebrooke–Cameron Komisyonu’nun tavsiyeleri doğrultusunda, bu etnik temelli idari yapılar tek bir yönetim altında birleştirildi ve ülke beş coğrafi eyalete ayrıldı. Jaffna Bölgesi, Mannar Bölgesi ve Vanni Bölgesi ile birlikte yeni Kuzey Eyaletini oluşturdu.
