Jaffna Bölgesi
Jaffna Bölgesi Jaffna Bölgesi, Sri Lanka'nın 25 ilçesinden biridir ve ülkenin ikinci düzeydeki idari bölgesidir. Bu bölge, Sri Lanka merkezi hükümeti tarafından atanan bir İl Sekreteri (önceden Hükümet Temsilcisi olarak biliniyordu) tarafından yönetilen bir İl Sekreterliği tarafından idare edilmektedir. Bölgenin başkenti Jaffna şehridir.
M.Ö. 5. yüzyıldan M.S. 13. yüzyıla kadar, günümüz Jaffna Bölgesi, Pandya, Chola, Pallava, Kalinga ve Rajarata gibi çeşitli krallıklara aitti. Jaffna Bölgesi, sonrasında pre-kolonyal Jaffna Krallığı'nın bir parçası oldu. Bölge daha sonra Portekiz, Hollanda ve Britanya kontrolüne geçti. 1815'te Britanyalılar, tüm Ceylon üzerinde kontrol sağladı. Adayı üç etnik temele dayalı idari yapıya böldüler: Düşük Ülke Sinhalalıları, Kandyan Sinhalalıları ve Tamil. Bölgenin bazı kısımları, 1978 Eylül'ünde yeni kurulan Mullaitivu Bölgesi'ne transfer edildi. Kilinochchi Bölgesi, 1984 Şubat ayında Jaffna Bölgesi'nin güney kısmından ayrıldı.
Jaffna Bölgesi, Sri Lanka'nın en kuzeyinde, Kuzey Bölgesi'nde yer almakta olup, Jaffna Yarımadası'nın büyük kısmını kapsar. Alanı 1.025 kilometrekare (396 mil kare) olup, coğrafi olarak dört bölgeye ayrılmıştır:
