Piirkonnad
In Sri Lanka, on piirkonnad teise taseme haldusüksused, mis on korraldatud riigi üheksa provintsi piires. Saar on jagatud 25 piirkonnaks, millest igaüht juhib piirkonnasekretär, ametnik, kelle määrab keskvõim. Piirkonnasekretäri roll on oluline sujuva valitsemise tagamiseks, olles peamine ühenduslüli keskvalitsuse ja kohalike administratsioonide vahel. Need piirkonnasekretärid koordineerivad tegevusi ja suhtlemist osakondade sekretariaatidega, aitavad arendusprojektide rakendamisel ja jälgimisel, soodustavad tulude kogumist ning jälgivad valimiste koordineerimist piirkonnatasandil.
Iga piirkond on veel jagatud piirkonnasekretäri osakondadeks (DS osakonnad), mis toimivad kolmanda taseme haldusüksustena. Sri Lankal on kokku 231 DS osakonda, mis pakuvad kohalikku valitsemist. Need DS osakonnad on veelgi jagatud Grama Niladhari osakondadeks, mis on riigi väikseim haldusüksus, neid on 14 022. Grama Niladhari ametnikud töötavad tihedalt kogukonnaga kohalike probleemide lahendamiseks, avalike teenuste pakkumiseks ja oma piirkondade nõuetekohaseks haldamiseks.
Sri Lankas piirkondade mitmekesisus peegeldab saare rikast kultuurilist ja geograafilist mitmekesisust. Alates elavatest linnakeskustest Lääneprovintsis kuni eemal asuvate roheliste mäestikega Keskprovintsis, igal piirkonnal on oma ainulaadne identiteet. Kas külastate Anuradhapura iidseid varemeid Põhja-Keskprovintsis või kogete Trincomalee rannikukauneid vaateid idas, iga piirkonna ainulaadne ajalugu, kultuur ja looduskaunidus pakuvad pilguheitu saare elavasse pärandisse.
