Lääne provints
Sri Lanka tihedaima asustusega provints, Lääne provints, mille pindala on 3 593 km², on riigi seadusandliku pealinna Sri Jayewardenepura koduks. See on ka riigi kaubanduskeskuse Colombo koduks.
Põhimõtteliselt kõik saare juhtivad haridusasutused asuvad Lääne provintsis. Provintsi ülikoolide hulka kuuluvad Colombo ülikool, Sri Jayewardenepura ülikool, Kelaniya ülikool, Sri Lanka Avatud Ülikool, Sir John Kotelawala Kaitseülikool, Moratuwa ülikool ja Sri Lanka Infotehnoloogia Instituut. Lääne provintsis asub ka riigi suurim arv koole.
Lääne provints koosneb kolmest maakonnast: Colombo, Gampaha ja Kalutara.
Colombo maakond on 642 km² suurune ja selle pealinn on Colombo. Teised maakonna tuntud ja olulised linnad on Dehiwala, Nugegoda, Maharagama, Homagama, Avissawella ja Moratuwa. Kotte linnaplaneerimise nõukogu, mis loodi 1930. aastatel kaasaegse hoonega Rajagiriyas, asendati Kotte linnanõukoguga, millest suur osa eemaldati ja liideti Colombo linnavalitsuse koosseisu, Borella linnaosa alla, samal ajal kui Battaramulla linnanõukogu likvideeriti ja väike osa Battaramullast liideti Kotte linnanõukoguga. Kotte linnanõukogu muutus 1997. aastal Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte linnavalitsuseks.
Mount Lavinia on uus linn, mis asub kohe Colombo lõunaosas. See tekkis mõnede oluliste linnalähedaste eeslinnade ja kogukondade ühendamise tulemusena halduslikel eesmärkidel. Keskused hõlmavad Dehiwalat ja Mount Lavinia rannakuurorti. Seal asuvad ka Sri Lanka rahvuslikud loomaaedade aed, mis on endiselt üks Aasia suurimaid. Dehiwala ja Mount Lavinia asuvad otse Wellawatte lõunaosas mööda Galle teed, mis kulgeb piki rannikuala lõuna poole. See on üks liberaalsemaid piirkondi Sri Lankas ning seal toimub saare igaaastane Vikerkaare Lenduvate Lohede festival.
Gampaha maakond on 1 386,6 km² suurune ja selle pealinn on Gampaha. Teised tuntud ja olulised linnad on Nittambuwa, Wattala, Ja-ela, Negombo ja Veyangoda.
Gampaha on linn, mis asub Colombo põhjas ja on Colombo'ist eraldatud Kelani jõega. Nimi “Gampaha” tähendab singali keeles “Viis küla”. See linn asub Gampaha maakonna keskel ja on umbes 4 km Miriswattast mööda Colombo-Kandy teed. Linn piirneb Yakkala, Miriswatta, Weliweriya, Udugampola ja Ja-Ela linnadega.
Viimastel aastatel on Gampaha kiiresti arenenud, ehitatud on palju uusi kaubanduskeskusi, teid, sildu ja viadukte. Enamik arenguprogramme selles piirkonnas on algatanud eraasutused.
Teine lääne provintsi maakond on Kalutara, mille pindala on 1 606 km² ja pealinn on Kalutara. Teised olulised ja populaarsed linnad selles maakonnas on Panadura, Beruwala, Aluthgama, Horana ja Matugama.
Kalutara on kuurortlinn, mis asub umbes 40 km lõuna pool Colombost.

Western ProvinceThe most densely populated province of Sri Lanka, the Western Province which is 3,593 km2 in extent is home to the country’s legislative capital Sri Jayewardenepura. It is also home to the country’s commercial hub, Colombo.

Central ProvinceThe Central Province is located in the central hills of Sri Lanka comprising of three administrative districts: Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya. The land area of the province is 5,575 km2 which is 8.6% of the total land area of Sri Lanka.

Southern ProvinceThe Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of three districts: Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Farming and fishing are the main sources of income for the vast majority of the people in this region.

Uva ProvinceThe Uva Province consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala while the capital of the province is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern and Central provinces.

Sabaragamuwa ProvinceSabaragamuwa is yet another province of Sri Lanka, located in the south-central region of the island and is comprised of two administrative districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle.

North Western ProvinceNorth Western Province is comprised of two administrative districts viz. Kurunegala and Puttalam. The provincial capital is Kurunegala that has a population of 28,571. The province is well known for its coconut plantations.

Northern ProvinceThe Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.

Eastern ProvinceAnother province of Sri Lanka mostly known for its golden beaches and the natural harbour, the Eastern Province which is 9,996 km2 in extent consists of three administrative districts namely Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
