Hiriwadunna Viharaya (Hiriwadunna Sri Bodhiraja Forest Hermitage) ist ein buddhistischer Tempel, der im Hiriwadunna-Dorf im Bezirk Anuradhapura liegt, nur 2 km von der Stadt Habarana entfernt. Auf dem Tempelgelände sind mehrere Ruinen alter Strukturen verstreut. Der alte Hiriwadunna-See, der von König Wasaba erbaut wurde, befindet sich in der Nähe des Tempels.

Dieser Ort wurde vor einigen Jahren bekannt, als ein örtlicher Priester ein Verschwörungstheorie-Buch mit dem Titel ‘Apa Upan Me Helabima Budun Upan Jambudweepayai’ veröffentlichte, in dem er behauptete, dass Buddha in dem alten Sri Lanka geboren wurde und dort lebte. Ein großer Steinblock, wahrscheinlich ein Asanagara (symbolischer Sitz von Buddha), liegt am Fuß des alten Bo-Baums, der jetzt teilweise unter den Wurzeln des Baumes begraben ist und als Vajrasanaya identifiziert wurde, der Ort, an dem Buddha während seiner Erleuchtung saß. Unabhängig von der Gültigkeit dieser Ideen in diesem Buch, das von vielen abgelehnt und sogar aus Bibliotheken verbannt wurde, ist Hiriwadunna ein historischer Ort, den man gesehen haben sollte, wenn man sich für die Geschichte von Sri Lanka und buddh Erbe interessiert.
