Ambuluwawa-toren
Heerlijk gehoord van de Ambuluwawa Toren? Als je in Sri Lanka bent voor een dagtour of rondreis, is de Ambuluwawa Toren een van de must-see plekken in Sri Lanka. Je kunt de Ambuluwawa Toren bereiken vanaf Kandy of Gampola. Enkele weetjes over deze locatie: het ligt 3567 meter boven zeeniveau en er groeien 200 planten die tot 80 verschillende soorten behoren. We weten dat de klim naar de top wat zwaar kan zijn, maar zoals je weet, geven de moeilijkste beklimmingen altijd het mooiste uitzicht. Enkele van de beste uitzichten die je vanaf deze toren kunt bewonderen zijn:
- Zuid – Sri Pada of Adams Peak
- Noord – Knuckles-bergketen
- West – Bathalegala of Bible Rock
- Oost – Piduruthalagala Mountain
Als je op een dag met een heldere lucht en geen mist bezoekt, kun je het adembenemende uitzicht zien van de Hanthana-bergketen, Hunnasgiriya en de bergen in het Nuwara Eliya district. De Hanthana-bergketen staat bekend als een eenzame krijger die alles kan doorstaan wat op zijn pad komt en is de thuisbasis van vele reizigers, die er vol vreugde avontuur kunnen beleven.
Verder is de Ambuluwawa Toren het eerste multi-religieuze centrum in Sri Lanka. Je kunt er een tempel, Kovil, moskee en kerk zien. Het is bekend dat de Ambuluwawa Tempel doet denken aan een boeddhistische ‘stupa’ met een hoogte van 48 meter. Dit multi-religieuze centrum toont vanaf het begin de perfecte harmonie en eenheid onder ons Sri Lankanen. Je zult niet alleen boeddhisten zien; iedereen bezoekt de Ambuluwawa Toren om de geweldige ervaring te beleven en ook om hun religies te vereren. Interessant feit: deze plek werd in 2006 een biodiversiteitscomplex.
Ambuluwawa Toren
Wanneer je de top van Ambuluwawa bereikt, kun je de meest verbazingwekkende uitzichten ervaren, die soms bedekt kunnen zijn door de aanhoudende mist. Zodra de mist echter optrekt, kan het uitzicht beangstigend zijn en klimmers angst aanjagen, vooral degenen die hoogtevrees hebben. Houd er rekening mee dat wandelen naar Ambuluwawa helemaal niet gevaarlijk of risicovol is, maar het is misschien niet het ideale avontuur voor mensen met hoogtevrees. Leun vooral niet tegen de reling om foto's te maken, vooral bovenaan, aangezien dit extreem riskant is en je gemakkelijk kunt uitglijden. Ambuluwawa is een relatief gemakkelijke wandeling die 360 graden uitzicht biedt op de omliggende bergen, bossen, rivieren en dorpen.
Het is een zeer diverse omgeving, met altijdgroene bossen, bloeiende planten, klimplanten en ongeveer 200 verschillende plantensoorten uit 80 plantenfamilies, waaronder diverse medicinale planten. Ambuluwawa wordt omringd door vele bergen, waaronder Piduruthalagala in het oosten, Bible Rock (Bathalegala) in het westen, Sri Pada (Adams Peak) in het zuiden en de Knuckles-bergketen in het noorden. Naast deze bergen zijn er nog vele andere bergen duidelijk zichtbaar vanaf hier, wat bijdraagt aan de schoonheid van het gebied. Dit zijn de Hanthana-bergketen, Hunnasigiri-berg en bergketens die verbonden zijn met Algalla en Kadugannawa. Door deze ligging waait er een koele bergbries in het gebied.
Hoogte van de Ambuluwawa Toren
Ambuluwawa ligt ongeveer 1.965 voet boven het niveau van de stad Gampola. De Ambuluwawa-berg staat ongeveer 3560 meter boven zeeniveau. De toren heeft een hoogte van ongeveer 48 meter en het wordt niet aanbevolen dat ouderen en kinderen de top beklimmen. De bergweg loopt langs een slingerende route, omgeven door berglandschappen, kliffen en unieke planten die nergens anders te vinden zijn. Interessante plaatsen om te bezoeken zijn onder andere drie vijvers, een heilige Bodhiboom, een waterpark, een stenen park en een kruiden tuin.
Het Ambuluwawa Biodiversiteitscentrum werd ingewijd door de voormalige premier van Sri Lanka, Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Jayaratne, bijgenaamd "Di Mu", die in de buurt van Gampola werd geboren. Voor degenen die vanuit Colombo komen, ligt Ambuluwawa op 85
About Kandy District
Kandy district is situated in the centrel province of Sri Lanka. About 129 km away from Colombo, Kandy is ensconced amongst a hilly terrain and all eyes are drawn to the centre of the city, where the Kandy Lake forms a charming feature. Kandy retains great religious significance for Sri Lanka, because it is in this charming city that the Dalada Maligawa or "Temple of the Tooth" is located, within which the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha lies well guarded.
The Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya is situated about 5 km to the west of the city centre at Peradeniya and is visited by 1.2 million people per year. It is the largest botanical garden on the island. The Udawatta Kele (Udawatta Forest) is a protected sanctuary situated in the heart of the city, just north of Temple of the Tooth.
Kandy is a Sinhala majority city; there are sizeable communities belonging to other ethnic groups, such as Moors and Tamils. Kandy is second only to Colombo the center of the Sri Lankan Economy. Many major co operations have large branch officers in Kandy and many industries include textiles, furniture, Information Technology and jewellery are found here. Many agriculture research centers are located in the city.

About Central Provincce
The Central Province of Sri Lanka consists primarily of mountainous terrain. The province has an area of 5,674 km², and a population of 2,421,148. Some major towns include Kandy, Gampola (24,730), Nuwara Eliya and Bandarawela. The population is a mixture of Sinhalese, Tamil and the Moors.
Both the hill capital Kandy and the city of Nuwara Eliya are located within the Central Province as well as Sri Pada. The province produces much of the famous Ceylon tea, planted by the British in the 1860s after a devastating disease killed all the coffee plantations in the province. Central Province attracts many tourists, with hill station towns such as Kandy, Gampola, Hatton and Nuwara Eliya. Temple tooth or Dalada maligawa is the main sacred place in Centrel province.
The climate is cool, and many areas about 1500 meters often have chilly nights. The western slopes are very wet, some places having almost 7000 mm of rain per year. The eastern slopes are parts of the mid-dry zone as it is receiving rain only from North-Eastern monsoon. The Temperatures range from 24°C at Kandy to just 16°C in Nuwara Eliya, which is located 1,889 m above sea level. The highest mountains in Sri Lanka are located in the Central Province. The terrain is mostly mountainous, with deep valleys cutting into it. The two main mountain regions are the central massif and the Knuckles range to the east of Kandy.
