스리랑카의 산과 봉우리 스리랑카의 중앙과 남부 지역에는 생태학적으로 중요한 산과 봉우리들이 많고, 생물다양성이 풍부합니다. 이 산들은 숲으로 보호되며, 많은 강들의 발원지입니다. 스리 파다는 스리랑카의 성스러운 봉우리로, 불교의 발자국을 숭배하는 순례자들이 찾는 곳입니다.

힐 컨트리(Hill Country)는 예외적으로 아름다우며, 맑고 깨끗한 폭포와 차 농장이 곳곳에 분포해 있습니다. 이 지역의 기온은 연중 내내 시원하며, 마치 이른 봄 아침의 분위기 같습니다. 모든 것이 푸르고 풍성하며, 경치는 풀밭과 가파른 폭포들이 있는 언덕으로 이루어져 있고, 높은 경사에는 울창한 산림이 자리를 잡고 있습니다. 이 지역의 하루는 매우 느리게 흐르며, 할 일이 많지 않지만 차를 마시며 (풍성하게) 고요함을 즐기고, 멋진 산책과 경치를 감상하는 데에 시간을 보낼 수 있습니다.

이곳에는 방문할 가치가 있는 작은 마을들이 몇 군데 있으며, 그 중 누와라엘리야가 있습니다. 또한 탐험할 가치가 있는 장엄한 자연 명소들이 있으며, 그 중 월드 엔드와 아담스피크가 있습니다.

월드 엔드는 호튼 평원 국립공원에 위치해 있으며, 풀밭과 숲, 고산식물들이 어우러진 구릉지대입니다. 이 평원은 2,000미터 이상의 고도로, 키리갈포타와 토투폴라 칸다와 같은 산들이 평원 가장자리에서 솟아 있습니다. 그러나 이 평원의 가장 특징적인 점은 월드 엔드로, 여기에서 평원이 갑자기 멈추고, 880미터 높이의 절벽 위에 서게 된다는 것입니다.

  • Totapolakanda is the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka situated in Nuwara Eliya district 2,357 m above mean sea level. The mountain is located within the Horton Plains National Park. A trail to the top of the mountain, about two kilometres long, starts a few metres away from the Pattipola entrance to the Horton Plains National Park.

  • The most famous physical feature of Ceylon is Adam’s Peak, which is situated in the Ratnapura district. It is on the edge of the central massif but its surrounding group of mountains called the Wilderness of the Peak . It is about 7500 ft high and, though it is the second-highest peak in the land.

  • The Riverston Peak in Sri Lanka can be reached by travelling, about 30km away from the Matale town, down the Matale– Girandurukotte Road. This secretive windy road, with its sharp hairpin turns, offers some of the best views to the surrounding countryside; to the extent that it is called the Mini World’s End.
