المحافظة الشمالية الغربية
المقاطعة الشمالية الغربية تتألف من منطقتين إداريتين هما كورونيغالا وبوتالام. عاصمة المقاطعة هي كورونيغالا التي يبلغ عدد سكانها 28,571 نسمة. تشتهر المقاطعة بزراعة جوز الهند. ومن المدن الرئيسية الأخرى في هذه المقاطعة تشيلاو (24,712 نسمة) وبوتالام (45,661 نسمة)، وكلاهما بلدتان صغيرتان لصيد الأسماك. يشكل السنهاليون غالبية سكان المقاطعة. كما توجد أقلية كبيرة من المور السريلانكيين حول بوتالام، إضافة إلى التاميل السريلانكيين في أودابّوا ومونيسواراما. وتعد صيد الأسماك، وتربية الروبيان، وزراعة المطاط من الصناعات البارزة الأخرى في المنطقة. تبلغ مساحة المقاطعة 7,888 كم² ويبلغ عدد سكانها 2,184,136 نسمة. يتميز المناخ بطابعه الاستوائي مع موسم جفاف واضح، وتتراوح درجات الحرارة بين 20° مئوية في يناير و25° مئوية في مارس. ويتميز جنوب المقاطعة بكونه أكثر رطوبة مع معدل أمطار سنوي يبلغ 2000 ملم، بينما يُعد الجزء الشمالي من المقاطعة من أكثر المناطق جفافًا في سريلانكا بمتوسط أمطار سنوي يبلغ 1100 ملم.
تزخر المقاطعة بالعديد من المواقع الأثرية، إذ كانت مقرًا لأربع ممالك سريلانكية في العصور الوسطى بين منتصف القرن الثاني عشر ومنتصف القرن الرابع عشر. وعلى الرغم من اضطرار الملوك السريلانكيين إلى نقل عواصمهم بسبب الغزوات الأجنبية، فإنهم شيدوا قلاعًا مهيبة في مناطق مثل باندوواسنووارا، ودامبادينيا، وياباهوا، وكورونيغالا. وتوفر بقايا تلك القلاع والقصور والمعابد البوذية والأديرة مشاهد خلابة للزوار.
كما تضم المقاطعة معابد بوذية صخرية قديمة أخرى، يعود معظمها إلى القرن الأول قبل الميلاد، وتتميز بجداريات وسقوف مزخرفة، وتماثيل ضخمة لبوذا، ونقوش حجرية ومنحوتات تعود إلى العصور الوسطى المبكرة وحتى القرن الثامن عشر.
ومع زرقة أمواج المحيط الهندي المتلألئة والبحيرات الاستوائية الخلابة، تمتلك المقاطعة شريطًا ساحليًا طويلًا من الشواطئ الذهبية الواسعة والمشمسة. وتمتد هذه الشواطئ من وايكّال في أقصى جنوبها إلى خليج الهولنديين في منطقة بوتالام.
ومن أفضل المنتجعات الشاطئية في المقاطعة ماراويلا، وتالاويلا، وكالبِتيا، ووايكّال. وغالبًا ما تتميز هذه الشواطئ بوجود بحيرة أو واجهة نهرية، مما يجعلها قواعد ممتازة لقضاء عطلات شاطئية هادئة. كما توفر بعض المنتجعات الشاطئية إمكانية مشاهدة عوالم الشعاب المرجانية المذهلة تحت الماء قبالة كانداكوليا وكارايتيفو. وتنتشر العديد من قرى الصيد على طول المناطق الساحلية.

Central ProvinceThe Central Province is located in the central hills of Sri Lanka comprising of three administrative districts: Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya. The land area of the province is 5,575 km2 which is 8.6% of the total land area of Sri Lanka.

Southern ProvinceThe Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of three districts: Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Farming and fishing are the main sources of income for the vast majority of the people in this region.

Uva ProvinceThe Uva Province consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala while the capital of the province is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern and Central provinces.

Sabaragamuwa ProvinceSabaragamuwa is yet another province of Sri Lanka, located in the south-central region of the island and is comprised of two administrative districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle.

North Western ProvinceNorth Western Province is comprised of two administrative districts viz. Kurunegala and Puttalam. The provincial capital is Kurunegala that has a population of 28,571. The province is well known for its coconut plantations.

Northern ProvinceThe Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.

Eastern ProvinceAnother province of Sri Lanka mostly known for its golden beaches and the natural harbour, the Eastern Province which is 9,996 km2 in extent consists of three administrative districts namely Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
