Dashanga Lepa Churna

Dashanga Lepa Churna is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal formulation primarily used in the external treatment of inflammatory and skin-related disorders. It is a fine powder composed of ten medicinal herbs, hence the name “Dashanga” (meaning “ten parts”). These ingredients are chosen for their potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiseptic, and cooling properties. The formulation is typically mixed with various liquids like water, milk, or herbal decoctions to make a paste (lepa) that is applied externally to the affected area.

The primary therapeutic uses of Dashanga Lepa Churna include treating conditions like arthritis, swelling, insect bites, skin infections, and allergic reactions. It helps reduce inflammation, soothes itching, and alleviates pain, making it particularly beneficial in cases of vata-pitta disorders. Common herbs in this formulation include Haridra (turmeric), Manjistha, Chandana (sandalwood), and Ushira, among others—all known for their skin-soothing and detoxifying properties.

Dashanga Lepa is often recommended in both classical texts and modern Ayurvedic practice due to its quick and localized action. It is especially helpful in pediatric care to treat skin rashes, fever-related headaches, and minor injuries. The formulation is considered safe when used externally and typically does not produce side effects. However, it should be used under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner, especially when treating sensitive skin or chronic conditions.
