About this experience
Wilpattu National Park is Sri Lanka's largest national park, a vast landscape of dense scrub forest threaded with villus — natural lakes that draw an exceptional concentration of wildlife to their shores. Leopards, sloth bears, and elephants are among the animals commonly spotted around these water sources, making the park one of the most rewarding safari destinations on the island.
Each visit runs for approximately three hours, with your experienced tracker-driver guiding the way through terrain they know intimately. The jeep carries a maximum of six passengers, keeping the experience unhurried and attentive. A complimentary water bottle per person is provided for the journey.
Wilpattu's remote setting means advance planning makes a significant difference to the day. The minimum age for the safari is five years, and guests are advised to come prepared with any food or drinks beyond what is included, as these are not provided. The park's distance from major tourist centres only adds to the sense of reaching somewhere genuinely apart from the crowds.

Much better than expected
We (a group of 4 adults) know that wild animals do not show up on command. This, combined with the fact that one of us is a photographer and has experience from safari in Africa, was the reason we had booked both a full-…

Amazing wildlife, but questionable ticketing experience
Overall, a great park experience - we saw a leopard, Sri Lanka junglefowl, deer, a falcon, even a small bear, and plenty of buffalo. Worth visiting.
But the ticketing felt like a scam. We were charged full foreigner rat…
