Commonly known as Polpala in Sri Lanka, Aerva lanata or the Mountain knotgrass is a woody succulent perennial herb that is native to many Asian countries. The whole plant of Polpala, especially the leaves are edible while it is added to porridge {kola kanda} or soups or eaten as a leafy green or vegetable. You can even add a bit of it to salads. In ancient Ayurvedic traditions, Polpala tea is enjoyed every morning while it is said to cleanse kidneys.
This dehydrated Polpala can be rehydrated once you immerse it in lukewarm water for about twenty minutes. This technique of dehydrating products helps the product to keep its medicinal and nutritional values intact including the taste and aroma.
