Dystrykt Matara
Matara to miasto na południowym wybrzeżu Sri Lanki, 160 km od Colombo. Jest to jedno z największych miast w kraju. W mieście zachowało się wiele pozostałości kolonialnej przeszłości Sri Lanki. Trzecia co do długości rzeka, Nilwala Ganga (Niebieska Rzeka), oddziela starą część miasta od nowej.

Świątynia Paravi Dupatha to stosunkowo nowoczesna świątynia buddyjska na Pigeon Island, małej wyspie przed miastem. Do świątyni prowadzi elegancki most wiszący dla pieszych, zbudowany w 2008 roku (zastępując wcześniejszy most zniszczony przez tsunami w 2004 roku). Świątynia znajduje się w atrakcyjnych ogrodach i mieści liczne posągi Buddy oraz replikę śladu stopy Adam’s Peak.
Fort Matara został zbudowany przez Portugalczyków w 1560 roku i w dużej mierze przebudowany przez Holendrów w 1640 roku po zdobyciu Galle. Fort składa się z dużego muru kamiennego i zajmuje przylądek między laguną rzeki Nilwala a oceanem.
Kościół Reformowany Holenderski w Matarze został zbudowany w 1706 roku wewnątrz Fortu Matara przez Holendrów i gruntownie przebudowany w 1767 roku po odbudowie fortu w 1762 roku.
Star Fort znajduje się po zachodniej stronie rzeki Nilwala. Fort został zbudowany przez Holendrów po Buncie w Matarze w 1761 roku, aby chronić główny fort przed atakami z rzeki. Budowa unikalnego fortu w kształcie gwiazdy zakończyła się w 1765 roku.
Stary rynek Nupe został zbudowany w 1784 roku przez Holendrów, około 3,2 km od Fortu Matara.
Kościół św. Marii znajduje się przy Beach Road. Data na bramie (1769) odnosi się do odbudowy po Buncie w Matarze w 1762 roku.
