About this experience
A safari at Minneriya National Park is a perfect way to meet Sri Lanka's gentle giants. Herds of elephants grace the tropical dry forests of the North Central Plains, migrating between here and two nearby reserves. In the dry season of August and September the park draws up to 300 elephants — Asia's largest gathering — to the grasslands around the beautiful Minneriya reservoir.
Travelling in a private jeep with an experienced driver-tracker, you set your own pace on a morning or evening safari. Beyond the elephants you may spot monkeys, sloth bear, mongoose, spotted deer, sambar deer, water buffalo, porcupine and the Indian pangolin. Choose the jeep-and-ticket option to skip the queues at the gate.
