Rumassala es una hermosa montaña ubicada a 3 km al este de la ciudad de Galle, en la Provincia del Sur de Sri Lanka, directamente vinculada con la Yatra de Ramayana en Sri Lanka. Según la ruta de Ramayana en Sri Lanka, se cree que esta característica geográfica inusual cayó cuando Hanuman llevó la montaña Dronagiri en su vuelo de regreso a Lanka para usar las hierbas Sanjeevani que salvan vidas. Estas hierbas eran necesarias para salvar a Lakshmana y Rama, quienes estaban gravemente heridos en la guerra. Por lo tanto, Rumassala es una de las cinco montañas Sanjivani en Sri Lanka y un lugar importante para el tour de Ramayana en Sri Lanka.

Leyenda

Según el famoso épico sánscrito Ramayana, cuando la esposa del príncipe Rama, Sita, fue secuestrada por el rey demonio Ravana, Rama, junto con su hermano menor y el semidiós mono Hanuman, la siguieron hasta Sri Lanka. Durante la feroz batalla para rescatarla, el hermano de Rama, Lakshmana, resultó gravemente herido, y Hanuman fue enviado a buscar las hierbas medicinales necesarias para curarlo. Se dice que el semidiós, en su confusión por encontrar el medicamento adecuado, rompió un trozo de la montaña sagrada. La montaña se rompió en cinco piezas separadas, y se cree que una de ellas cayó donde hoy se encuentra la montaña Rumassala. Mientras transportaba la montaña, se dice que partes de ella cayeron en cinco lugares de Sri Lanka: Rumassala en Galle, Dolu Kanda en Hiripitiya, Ritigala en la carretera Habarana-Anuradhapura, Thalladi en Mannar, y Kachchativu en el norte.

Hoy en día, la majestuosa montaña se erige como un testimonio de los fascinantes incidentes mencionados en el épico. Con extrañas historias de viajeros que se pierden en la montaña, Rumassala también es un refugio para las hierbas. Los investigadores han encontrado cerca de 150 especies de hierbas únicas que extrañamente no crecen en ningún otro lugar.

  • Pidurutalagala or Mount Pedro in English, is an ultra prominent peak, and the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, at 2,524 m (8,281 ft). Mount Pedro is located close to the city of Nuwara Eliya, and is easily visible from most areas of the Central Province. It is situated North-North-East from the town of Nuwara Eliya.

Lipton’s Seat is so named because the famed Scottish baron and tea planter Sir Thomas Lipton used it as the seat to survey his empire in a time long gone but not forgotten.

  • Don’t defiance the beautiful tourism site in Sri Lanka, Little Adams Peak whether considering the word ‘Little’, it is named after the sacred Adams Peak (Sri Pada –where the foot print of Lord Buddha is preserved) regarding the similarity between the two mountains.

  • Ritigala can be reached from the turn-off from Habarana-Anuradhapura Road at a distance of 12 km from Habarana. Another 5 km along a graveled yet motorable road leads to the foot of the mountain.

  • Ethagala (the Elephant Rock) is one of seven rocks that overlook the town of Kurunegala, in Sri Lanka. The rock face reaches 316 metres (1,037 ft) over the town and in its shape resembles a crouching elephant, which explains the rock’s name.
