Picos

Montañas y picos en Sri Lanka. En las zonas centrales y meridionales de Sri Lanka existen varias montañas y picos de gran importancia ecológica y con una rica biodiversidad. Estas montañas se conservan como bosques y son el punto de origen de numerosos ríos. La montaña Sri Pada es el pico sagrado de Sri Lanka, donde los peregrinos acuden a venerar la huella del Señor Buda.

La región montañosa (Hill Country) es excepcionalmente hermosa, con cascadas de aguas cristalinas y plantaciones de té repartidas por todo el paisaje. La temperatura en esta región se mantiene fresca durante todo el año, con una atmósfera similar a la de una mañana primaveral temprana. Todo es verde y frondoso, y el paisaje se eleva en capas de colinas cubiertas de hierba y cascadas escarpadas, con densos bosques montañosos aferrados a las laderas superiores. Los días transcurren lentamente en esta región, con poco más que hacer que beber té (en abundancia) y absorber la serenidad, así como disfrutar de caminatas y vistas impresionantes.

Existen varios pueblos pequeños que sin duda merecen una visita, como Nuwara Eliya. También hay algunas maravillas naturales majestuosas para explorar, entre ellas World’s End y el Pico de Adán.

World’s End se encuentra en el Parque Nacional Horton Plains, un terreno elevado y ondulado de praderas intercaladas con bosques y una vegetación inusual de gran altitud. Las llanuras alcanzan alturas superiores a los 2.000 metros, con las montañas Kirigalpotta y Thotupola Kanda elevándose desde los bordes de la meseta. Sin embargo, la característica más impresionante de este extraño y silencioso mundo de las llanuras es World’s End, donde la meseta se detiene abruptamente y te deja suspendido sobre una caída vertical de 880 metros.

  • Totapolakanda is the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka situated in Nuwara Eliya district 2,357 m above mean sea level. The mountain is located within the Horton Plains National Park. A trail to the top of the mountain, about two kilometres long, starts a few metres away from the Pattipola entrance to the Horton Plains National Park.

  • The most famous physical feature of Ceylon is Adam’s Peak, which is situated in the Ratnapura district. It is on the edge of the central massif but its surrounding group of mountains called the Wilderness of the Peak . It is about 7500 ft high and, though it is the second-highest peak in the land.

  • Bambarakanda Peak is located in theBadulla Districtof Sri Lanka, within theUva Province. It is part of the central highlands and is situated near the famousBambarakanda Falls, the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The area is renowned for its lush greenery, cool climate, and stunning natural beauty.

  • The Riverston Peak in Sri Lanka can be reached by travelling, about 30km away from the Matale town, down the Matale– Girandurukotte Road. This secretive windy road, with its sharp hairpin turns, offers some of the best views to the surrounding countryside; to the extent that it is called the Mini World’s End.
