Der Flughafen Hingurakgoda, auch bekannt als Minneriya Airport, ist ein Inlandsflughafen in Hingurakgoda, Sri Lanka. Er ist auch ein Militärflughafen, bekannt als Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda

Die Anlage liegt 6,4 Seemeilen (11,9 km) nördlich der Stadt Polonnaruwa auf einer Höhe von 46 Metern (151 Fuß) und verfügt über eine Landebahn mit der Bezeichnung 07/25 mit einer Bitumenoberfläche von 2.287 mal 46 Metern (7.503 Fuß × 151 Fuß).

Geschichte

Dieser Stützpunkt war während des Zweiten Weltkriegs von 1942 bis 1946 ein Flugplatz der RAF, RAF Minneriya, der 1978 von der sri-lankischen Luftwaffe renoviert und neu errichtet wurde.

Einrichtungen

SLAF Hingurakgoda ist der viertgrößte Flughafen Sri Lankas und verfügt über die viertlängste Landebahn Sri Lankas. Die Landebahn bietet problemlos Platz für Schmalrumpfflugzeuge wie den Airbus A320, die Boeing 737 und die Boeing 757. Auch Großraumflugzeuge wie der Airbus A300, der Airbus A330, die Boeing 767, die Boeing 777 und im Notfall sogar eine Boeing 747 können problemlos auf der Landebahn landen.

Die einzige Landebahn des Flughafens ist nicht mit ILS (Instrumentenlandesystem) ausgestattet, daher werden alle Anflüge und Starts visuell durchgeführt.
