Güney Eyaleti
Sri Lanka'nın Güney Eyaleti, üç ilçeden oluşan küçük bir coğrafi alandır: Galle, Matara ve Hambantota. Tarım ve balıkçılık, bu bölgedeki çoğu insan için başlıca gelir kaynaklarıdır. Güney Eyaleti'nin önemli simge yapıları arasında vahşi yaşam koruma alanları; Yala, Lunugamvehera ve Bundala Ulusal Parkları yer almaktadır. Tarih öncesi bağlantılara sahip olan Ambalantota'daki Ussangoda, plaj ve denizin panoramik manzarasını sunar ve Tissamaharama, Kirinda ve Galle gibi eski şehirleri içerir. Portekiz döneminde, Dickwella'dan Andare ve Matara İlçesi'nden Denipitiya'lı Gajaman Nona adında iki ünlü Sinhalese şair vardı; bunlar sıradan insan üzerine şiirler yazmışlardır.
Galle İlçesi kuzeyde Bentara Nehri, güney ve batıda Hint Okyanusu ve doğuda Matara ve Ratnapura ilçeleri ile sınırlıdır. Galle İlçesi'nin topografyası oldukça çeşitlidir. Hiniduma Pattuwa'nın iklim koşulları Sri Lanka'nın merkezi dağlık bölgesi ile çok benzerdir. Bu bölge, Galle İlçesi'ndeki çoğu nehir ve göl için su toplama alanları olan yağmur ormanlarından oluşmaktadır. Bunlardan biri Sinharaja Orman Koruma Alanıdır. Galle İlçesi ılıman iklim kuşağında yer alır ve yıllık yağış miktarı 2000 ile 2500 mm arasındadır. “Gin Ganga” Nehri, Hiniduma Pattuwa'daki Gongala Tepesi'nden başlar ve 113 km (70 mil) uzunluğundaki yolculuğu boyunca Neluwa, Thawalama, Nagoda Baddegama ve Thelikada bölgelerinden geçer. Nehir, 922 km² genişliğinde bir araziyi besler. Uzun yolculuğunun ardından Gintota'da Hint Okyanusu'na dökülür. Madhu Ganga Nehri Polathukanda'dan başlar ve Balapitiya'da denize katılır. Bu, Galle ilçesindeki ekolojik dengeyi korumaya yardımcı olur.
Galle Kalesi ve Sinharaja Orman Koruma Alanı, UNESCO tarafından Dünya Mirası Alanları olarak ilan edilmiştir. Kanneliya ve Hiyare Orman Koruma Alanları Galle İlçesi'nde yer almaktadır.
Matara ilçesi, doğal güzelliklerle dolu manzaralı bir deniz kuşağıyla çevrilidir. Gurur duyulan bir tarihe sahiptir ve Galle ile Hambantota ilçeleri arasında yer alan verimli bir bölgedir. Sinharaja yağmur ormanı ve birçok çekici şelale içerir. Matara İlçesi iklimsel olarak alçak bölgelerin nemli bölgesine aittir. Bu iklim deseni, adanın genel koşullarıyla benzer şekilde devam eder.
Hambantota İlçesi, Sri Lanka'nın güneydoğu kıyısında yer almaktadır. İlçenin başkenti olan Hambantota, tuz üretim merkezi olarak bilinir. Diğer önemli şehirler arasında Tangalle, Ambalantota, Tissamaharama ve Beliatta bulunmaktadır.
1948'de ülkenin bağımsızlığını kazanmasından sonra modern gelişme başlamadan önce, ilçedeki tarım, Chena tarımı ve kısmen sulanmayan arazilerde pirinç ekimi şeklindeydi. Yüksek bölgelerde Kurakkan ve mısır gibi diğer tahıllar da yetiştirilmekteydi. Leonard Woolf'un ‘Village in the Jungle’ adlı eseri çok ilginç ve bilgilendirici bir anlatım sunmaktadır.

Western ProvinceThe most densely populated province of Sri Lanka, the Western Province which is 3,593 km2 in extent is home to the country’s legislative capital Sri Jayewardenepura. It is also home to the country’s commercial hub, Colombo.

Central ProvinceThe Central Province is located in the central hills of Sri Lanka comprising of three administrative districts: Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya. The land area of the province is 5,575 km2 which is 8.6% of the total land area of Sri Lanka.

Southern ProvinceThe Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a small geographic area consisting of three districts: Galle, Matara and Hambantota. Farming and fishing are the main sources of income for the vast majority of the people in this region.

Uva ProvinceThe Uva Province consists of two districts: Badulla and Moneragala while the capital of the province is Badulla. Uva is bordered by the Eastern, Southern and Central provinces.

Sabaragamuwa ProvinceSabaragamuwa is yet another province of Sri Lanka, located in the south-central region of the island and is comprised of two administrative districts: Ratnapura and Kegalle.

North Western ProvinceNorth Western Province is comprised of two administrative districts viz. Kurunegala and Puttalam. The provincial capital is Kurunegala that has a population of 28,571. The province is well known for its coconut plantations.

Northern ProvinceThe Northern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south.

Eastern ProvinceAnother province of Sri Lanka mostly known for its golden beaches and the natural harbour, the Eastern Province which is 9,996 km2 in extent consists of three administrative districts namely Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
