Somawathiya Stupa, Doğu Bölgesinde, Sri Lanka’nın Polonnaruwa kasabasına yakın konumlanmış önemli bir Budist stupasıdır. Bu, adanın en çok saygı duyulan kutsal alanlarından biridir ve Budha'nın sağ dişinin bir kalıntısını barındırdığına inanılmaktadır. Stupa, Sri Lanka'nın Budist mirasının simgesidir ve hac ve ibadet için bir odak noktasıdır.

Somawathiya Stupa, M.Ö. 3. yüzyılda Kral Mahasena döneminde inşa edilmiştir ve geleneksel kubbe şeklinde tasarlanmıştır, merkezi bir kalıntı odası ve etrafında taş yollar bulunmaktadır. "Somawathiya" ismi, ay döngüsüyle ilişkili olduğu için aydan alınmıştır ve tarihi olarak ayın dolunay günü ile bağlantılıdır. Çevresindeki zengin yeşilliklerle çevrili huzurlu konumu, manevi anlamını artırmaktadır.

Somawathiya Stupa’yı ziyaret edenler, eski taş oymaları, yazıtları ve Budist manastır komplekslerinin kalıntılarını keşfedebilirler. Burada, Sri Lanka'nın Budist tarihi ve manevi yönüyle bağlantı kurmak isteyenler için önemli bir yer vardır. Stupa ayrıca, yıl boyunca düzenli olarak gerçekleştirilen dini törenler ve ritüellerle kültürel bir öneme sahiptir.

Somawathiya Stupa’yı ziyaret etmek için en iyi zaman, kuru mevsimde, Aralık ile Nisan arasında, dış mekan keşifleri için en uygun hava koşullarının olduğu zamandır. Stupa kolayca erişilebilir ve Sri Lanka'nın zengin Budist geleneklerine ve arkeolojik mirasına anlamlı bir yolculuk sunmaktadır.

About Polonnaruwa District

Polonnaruwa is the 2nd largest city in north central province in Sri Lanka. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO Polonnaruwa has a great history of conquest and struggle behind it and rightfully forms the third element in the Cultural Triangle.
