About this experience

This 27-day tour runs the length of Sri Lanka, from the southern beaches up through the hill country and the Cultural Triangle to the north and the north-east coast before returning to Colombo. It moves through Hikkaduwa, Galle, Mirissa and Yala in the south, climbs into the highlands at Ella, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy, then covers the ancient cities of Dambulla, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura, before heading to Trincomalee and Jaffna in the north and finishing with Colombo and Negombo.

Travellers get a genuine cross-section of the island: colonial forts and stilt fishermen on the south coast, leopard and elephant safaris, a scenic train ride through tea country, the rock fortress of Sigiriya and the ruined cities of the Cultural Triangle, Hindu temples and war memorials around Jaffna, whale watching and coral islands off Trincomalee, and a final taste of city life in Colombo. The pace is unhurried, with several multi-day stays built in for beach time, hiking or simply exploring one region in depth.

The tour runs by private vehicle with a chauffeur guide throughout, handling transfers and logistics between each stop so the itinerary can move from coast to highlands to ancient cities and back without the traveller arranging onward transport.
